I know you must be asking about "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and as much as I love Jimi, SRV's version is the one I prefer.

SRV was awesome....no doubt....
but in the context of the period, 1969............Hendrix was..............................well he was Hendrix
the equipment and recording technology wasn't the greatest then.................still...........he laid the foundation

BOth, based on my mood, the original will always be the CLASSIC, he created the style for the song to be raw, like the late 60's early 70's hard rock.

SRV's version was well practiced for years, then incorporated the blues for a bit of perfection, well done, and excellent in it's own right.

Hendy first for me. He was the pioneer and his version is still amazing and fresh. As brilliant as Stevie was, he was following.

I submit SRV's take on the matter!

SRV on Hendrix

Wheel…watch the below YouTube…see the way he takes it when he's told he's one of the greatest to play the guitar…he was really humbled.

As much as I love both…SRV was just following Hendrix…almost note for note on that song. He modeled Hendrix all the way down to the compisition of his own band! I'm glad he breathed life into the song but they're 2 great guitarists that have different styles. One was an innovator that was cut down before his prime, one was a sheer talent that let drugs rob him of his creativity only to bounce back sober for a short time. Hendrix was bored with Rock and was experimenting with Classical and Jazz stylings. I really LOVED the PBS special on Hendrix. It was nice to see those soooo close to him say what a charming and happy person he was.

RIP to both of them.

You people are high. Hendrix was the first and the best. To me, SRV was nothing more than the guitar equivalent of an Elvis impersonator....albeit, a good one.

Please SEE OP,, original Q WAS which version do you like better, was not a statement on who's better. Let's face it without the " innovator " in any conversation....point's mute

Stevie was nonetheless a Badass

Original. The question never occurred to me.

However, I have spent hours debating (in my head) which artist's Little Wing I prefer. For years I gave a slight edge to SRV. Now I consider it a draw.

Each version is as different as each artist that performed the song.
Jimi's was first and sets the high standard. No one can play like Jimi did.
SVR's is a great cover in honor of Jimi's version.
Buddy Guy also does a great VooDoo Chile.

Holy crap......been utubing Jimi this morning after thinking about this post. Came across one I've not heard before, but after repeated listenings...maybe 5 already, this tune is absolutely incredible. Just might be my favorite Hendrix song....at least for the moment. Wow.

Yep, some of his more obscure blues music is FULL of feeling!

Been listening to that one and a few others since the 70's when I was a teen. Those were the cheap cassettes, hehe.

Found some real treasures in those bargain bins

I'm still listening to it....I'm a little surprised that its an original - not a cover. It just sounds so T-Bone Walker-ish....or Freddy King-like.

Also, it isn't just Hendrix....the rhythm guys are incredible. The pacing is so perfectly managed. I'm still in awe.

SRV doesn't do it for me. His riffs, to me, represent boring white guy blues.

Just my opinion. Most disagree with me.

Not to mention, what would Jimi have been able to do with all the toys, effects, that SRV, had available to him.

The interpetitions are different. Jimi had more power, Stevie more bluesy. When all is said and done, I enjoy both.

I have wondered what Jimi would have done with SRV's - Riviera paradise...I also would have liked to hear how Pink Floyd/David Gilmour would have have played Riviera Paradise....oh well,to many questions will be left unanswered ...fog

I vote SRV...

SAW HIM @ BLOSSOM MUSIC FESTIVAL IN
AKRON ohhh-H-TEN in SUMMER OF 83'?84'?

Not sure if he played it???

On a grassy knoll with a cotton quilt...loose Thai and vodka tonics in a Coleman water jug...

He arrived and left on a helicopter....

F**KING BEST CONCERT I EVER SAW...,

Jimi was a force of nature When he sang “Well, I stand up next to a mountain / And I chop it down with the edge of my hand“. You believed he could do it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wqLEg0MsSMQ

SRV was a better technical player but the original is the best. fog

Loose Thai what ? p**sy? Sounds nasty and disease ridden.

And SRV is the most over rated guitarist in history. He literally played one scale his whole career and re used the same worn out licks over and over.

SRV played in several scales....major and minor Blues scales, major and minor Pentatonic scales and a bit of Lydian and Mixolydian scales

boy could I go for some loose Thai right about now....Bombed ....I haven't had any good Thai since the early 80's

SRV's best voodoo Chile performance...

Unbelievable...
My vote stands as it was...

Also saw a Willie the Wimp and his Cadillac coffin video...
Looked like Austin City Limits? Excellent!!
