Prefer the Culebra over the 4. Have a 5 that was gifted but haven't tried yet.

Never smoked a SD5 and certainly don't plan to buy any. Smaller cigar, yet priced higher than the SD4...which is a staple in my humidor. Love it. Great with 3-5 years of age.

PSP2 is good too, and I actually found my 08 box to be more full than the SD4s I've smoked...which isn't always the general consensus.

Bottom line. SD4 is a killer smoke at $8-9 per.

I have not found the PSD5 to be better than the PSD4. Considering price and the same amount of age PSD4 for me.

PSP is a different animal with it's own profile.

You at the same address John? I'll send you a couple SD5's and you can make up your own mind.

From my experience the 5 is very slow out of the gate......always disappointed the the first inch, but it picks up momentum and finishes strong. The beginning always makes me wonder so patience is a virtue with this cigar. With that said, I prefer the 4, especially considering the smaller 5 is more expensive.

Agree with DED on the PSP.

My experience with the PSP's is limited but I enjoyed the few I've smoked. When possible I Iike to double down and put a box of cigars I really enjoy at the bottom of the coolidor for a few years or so rest. D4's are a good option for that as they smoke well fresh and are even better with age, and it's nice to have some aged stock of favorites to dip into now and again.

Will get a package out to you early next week.

If given the choice, I'd take the PSD4 over the PSP2 nine times out of ten. There aren't that many pyramides in the habanos lineup and the PSP2 wouldnt even be in my top 3. If you're looking to spend some coin on a quality box of Cuban No. 2s, I'd recommend the Upmann, Monte and Vegas Robainia all over the PSP2. JMO of course.

KPP stack up of that size is spot on. Take your pick.....any/all of those 3 are all above the party 2 IMB (In My Book). Some people do love the party tho.

I agree,
If given my choice, it would be.
#1 H Upmann #2
#2 V Robainia Unico
#3 Monte#2

And I don't care for the PSP #2

^ agree w/ Dave, the Upmann 2 would be my favorite of those 3 as well. I'd place the Monte above the VR though, but that's splitting hairs really. All great smokes.

+1 And to make more money. It is also a "historic rerelease". I believe that there where several different sizes (#'s) in the Partagas Serie line.

I didn't say "completely" different than the 4, but yes, definitely different.......but not nearly as different as the #2.
And yes, to make more money....but that's really the only reason the roll them in the first place. As with any commodity, the decision to buy is up to the consumer.

So the PSD 4 and 5 are different sizes AND different blends. I did not know that.

What's the difference in flavor or strength?

The #5 is not really a re-release. Historically there were 16 different vitolas of the #4 type blend. They were called A B C or D which referred to the ring gauge and each had a different length designated as 1 2 3 or 4. Any D was 50 ring gauge, any 4 was 4 7/8 length, etc. All 16 were discontinued in the 1960's and the PSD#4 was reintroduced about 1975.

bringing this to the top because I finally tried PSD5's, and they are decent, but wondering if i should get psd4's, which I like, so updated thoughts on both these cigars, which you might like better? there is a good deal on PSD5's out there, but wondering if i should get PSD4's

wow, this is an old thread.

I've moved away from the partagas marca from 2+ years ago because they seem to need more aging to reach optimal smokabilty (if that makes sense). They seem to need at least 2-3 yrs.

I have a box, each, of the 4s and 5s with about 2+ yrs each. At this point, if I had to choose, I would go with the 4s. But i wouldnt rebuy either.

Me likely psd4 and psp2. (Thanks Julian and Ryan!!). I'd buy a box of each if I could ever resist the urge to piss away my cigar and whiskey budget on Onesie twosie purchases never leaving funds for that Cuban order I'm always thinking about ......
