missed this the other night.
Haven't seen that this year, but probably bought a bottle every year forever.
Has like pale orangey triangular "peaks" on the label...something like that?

Rene Couly Chinon Rose 2015
from cabernet franc grapes

I loved it. very little acidity, not as bracing/crisp/dry as many roses. the fruit came through.
knowing myself and my opinion of the value of roses, definitely paid under $15...now I just have to remember where I bought it and get a case for summer weekend sunsets...

for some reason, i picked up a bottle of two-buck-Chuck cabernet sauvignon at Trader Joes a few weeks ago, though I think it may have been $3.99.

Charles Shaw. Tell ya what, wasn't bad at all.

LAGRANJA 360 Tempranillo. A little light, but nice flavor.

Spain and Portugal have been producing tons of good juice on the cheap for several years now...though I do not know the one you mention, I am guessing it is from Spain?

Yes, from Spain, and inexpensive, $3.68 a bottle. A Trader Joes exclusive I think. It actually gained some weight as it opened up.

Toad Hollow rose last night with strawberries and red raspberrys. It was refreshing and matched the fruit well. Pinot Noir based.

Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rose 2015

been doing a couple bottles of this label per Summer for 3 years now, very refreshing. Really washed down some curried turkey burgers at dinner tonight.

Allen, you seem to be trending to bigger reds as the weather warms up, other than the Toad Hollow.

Our weather has not been as hot as yours Frank. Though I think Roses, Beaujolais, and light Pinot Noirs will be the standard now, today is the first hot sticky one in Sconnie. Georges Debuof Beaujolais village with a light chill. Though I do drink reds in all weather. Whites are a change of pace.

I am interested in reds that drink well when lightly chilled. Any you'd care to suggest?

What are calling lightly chilled, 59?

Almost any Beaujolais village. I usually get the Georges Debuof as it is usually avalible. A couple of others that come to mind are Louis Jadot village, and Joseph Drouhin village. The only Beaujolais Gran Cru light enough is Fleurie. As far as Pinot Noir, any light well made Pinot, the type you would describe the fruit as strawberry. Mark West California, De Loach California, and Castle Rock come to mind. I chill reds 20 minutes in an ice and water bucket.

I think you could also chill a light red zinfandel or a light tempernillo, though I have not due to not liking the flavor profiles.

I'm not sure, but Speyside knows more than me. My guess is to refrigerate and then let sit at room temp for about 30 minutes? Allen?

I've just "cooled down" a few and enjoyed them...mostly pinot noirs, but only those that are lighter in body. In recent years I have come across some fairly full and fruit forward pinots, so much so that I would have guessed cabernet...so not those.

Today's Boston Globe food section lists 3 that fit the description, I have not had any yet, but here is what they suggest for drinking "slightly chilled leading us from Spring to Summer with ease".

Le Cantine di Indie " Polpo Rosso" Terre Siciliane 2014-around $17

Domaine Mont de Marie "Anatheme" Rouge 2013- around $18

Weingut Darting Pinot Meunier, Pfalz 2013 around $20

If I am able to find any, I will report. Would you like to try one or three if I am successful? It would be my pleasure, sir.

Not that I have had the Weingut, but a Pinot Meunier from the Pfalz sounds like a good choice.

For my taste a light Pinot Noir, a Beaujolais, or a Rose are good fish pairings.

Also many of the wines I drink do not have high alcohol levels. For instance the Debouf is 12.5 percent.

Just messing with you. Usually when I open a bottle I'm afraid it may spoil.

I use wine preserver, a gas that you spray a little into the open wine bottle. The gas is heavier than air so it comes between the air and wine. The wine will easily stay fresh for a week.

I normally just consume the remainder to prevent spoilage.

Cork it back up and put it in the frig. Good for a day or two unless it is an old wine or as long as it is not decanted.

Iff'n' it is a frog wine ... Just say no.

Rogue Red. It's a local blended red that runs about $9, very serviceable for the price not too complex.

for Father's Day barbecue at my house (natch), chilling a bottle of Rene Couly Rose and a bottle of Domaine Sainte-Eugene
"Corbieres" 2013, a red from France but "on the native soil of Fontfroide, near the Mediterranean Sea"

One of my "wine guys" said Oh yeah, great red for chilling. I'll report once emptied.

For hot weather I look for dry wines from Washington like Hogue or some from Finger Lakes region as long as the residual sugar is around 3% or less. If German I look for Troken.

so the barbecue turned into pizza and stuff, and we forgot about that read I had chilling.

opened it (Corbieres) the other night, and probably finishing it tonight. Picked up flavor as it moved from cold to chilled to cool. Good fruit, stays dry, just a little earth and tannins so it was balanced enough for me.

heartier than whites and roses for sure, but sort of a nice way to drink a real red.

I'll seek others over the summer.

Brand new wine coming out soon

I sampled it yesterday with customers and all ordered multiple cases.

Cline Vineyard
Cashmere Black Magic.

It should hit here in the next 30 days. Ask for it....you should be able to get some.

Cline has been a major player in zins for a long time. I've seen and had "cashmeres" a few times as well.

Had the same Corbieres that Frank did, wanted to compare notes. Very good wine , but insipid when to cold. This is a wine that should be drank at traditional room temperature, 57 degrees. Depending on one's refrigerator between 1/2 hour and 1 hour chill, just to the point of being cool. The wine had a dark cherry and blackberry nose. Similar flavors with the addition of a hint of vanilla and a hint of sage.
