I had my first Ramon Bueso "project", and I dont know if its just me, but if I closed my eyes, I swear I was garing a Oliva V...i know this may be a stretch, and I am no cigar afficionado, but the flavor profile is sooo close, I know we are talking gold and bronze I guess, but really enjoyed it because I ama Oliva V fan..i had the toro vitola

Maybe smoked a young one to get that similar flavor profile?? I always thought they were very different profiles. I might need to smoke two back to back.

Taste is subjective hell I smoked a cheap cigar last night with a years rest and the retrohale towards the last third tasted just like after I take a drink of dr pepper and exhale. Anyone else might not have gotten that flavor but I did and it tasted good so if the genesis tastes like an oliva v then that's awesome.

Think it is your perception. I find the 2 very different.

I agree, nothing alike.

Project just tastes like a good Maduro worthy of car rides to/from work.

Oliva V is more a golfing dark habano type smoke.

To me, it really doesn't remind me of anything, but does taste mostly like a maduro.

The Project tastes more like an Undercrown than it does a Oliva V IMO.

Here's a prediction:
Ramon Bueso will, sooner than later, come out with a 4x40ish "mini Genesis".
I think it will be good.
I think it will sell well.

I think I would bid.
I think I might even overbid on such a cigar.

Love the "V", Habano, spicy, etc.

Love the Project also, but to me, definitely a different taste, sweet, cocoa, less spice

Is it just me or does talking about a cigar in here do this to cigars out there?

Nah.

In fact, this is the only cigar DP would pay $3 each for.

RIP DP.......

And, if a Quorum smokes better than a Cuban Cohiba, comparing a Ramon Bueso to an Oliva V is not too far of a stretch. Wouldn't you say?

It's not just you. Everytime I go to post on the whatcha smoking topic there is a guest or 3 or 4 or more looking in. If we talked up Ron Mexico and CBID put up some fivers, they would probably get 15 or more for them.

I've got two Genesis Habanos I'm resting based on what I saw on previous threads. Looking forward to having one in a month or two. Never tried the Project, but it's on my list.

Smoked my first Odyssey the other day and was not impressed at all. May dig out a Genesis if they have rested enough after we get home.

Well just finished an Odyssey Toro.......
first inch was meh........not newspaper meh.............but somewhat bland
then into the second third the cigar tried to give off some flavor.........hints of nuts/mild tobacco
I ditched the final third.........(bitterness came to play)

Summary:
If you like mild/medium smokes, and can get them for cheap..................you might give a fiver a try....
For me, the one year added rest did nothing.....................so smoke em if ya got em
I won't be buying again....

Bueso hits a grand slam with the Genesis imho.........
Then strikes out looking at 3 pitches with the Odyssey.......
I'm hoping he at least gets a hit with the Habano.......got a box of Robs ($37) I'll break into in a month or two to try one out.

Smoked an Odyssey the other day - second third did not impress me as much as it did the King and the final third wasn't too bitter.

rrumba gifted me some Projects that had about 18 months rest on them. Have to say they were MUCH better than the ones I had from the sampler which I smoked fairly soon after getting them. None of the ashy harsh taste (that I had with the "fresh" ones) with these rested ones. These are going to be nice smokable sticks. Nothing overly amazing but good.

I still prefer the Habanos. And the Projects are not a stick I would buy to wait a year-and-a-half to smoke!

^ if you have the room to bury em for a long time, they're decent enough after aging to be worth more than the $40-50 a box that they cost.

But if space is a premium, I agree. Hard to justify aging unless the end result is spectacular.

Parked my Project Habanos in an ammo can with some Spanish Cedar and a Boveda, stuck it on a shelf along with another ammo can of MB3s treated the same. Don't plan to open em again for a year. We'll see.

Ron Mexico's for only $15 a fiver?

Better not post when I smoke John Bull Proper English in the Briar thread either so it stays a dollar a pouch!

I snapped a screenshot on my phone of the "what you smoking" thread with 36 guests looking at what is posted.

72 guests in the cigar forum and 157 in the trades forum. I'd never seen so many in here at once. Keeping the lights on that's for sure.

Seeing what happens to prices out there after we talk about a cigar in here I'd say they're buying.

Pulled one out for tonight. Well over a year's nap. Big cedar spice, cocoa, and a sweet maduro finish. Still has a hint of grass, but honestly if this were smoked blindly I wouldn't be looking for it, and wouldn't notice.

I'd go so far as to say this (meaning this particular one, as I've had everything from good to bad in this box) cigar could play with the big boys. Really working for me. Loads of sweet spice and creamy texture and the burn is perfect.
