I only offer what I would smoke myself.

Sir, I offer freely from my stash to actual cigar smokers. The mooch-a-dor is for the non cigar smoker who only smokes when everyone else is and never gets the smokes. Im a gracious host, but that only goes so far.

You'd (And everyone else here on these forums) would be welcome to my normal humidor.

I may even be inclined to let you have some of my craft beer that's always around the house in random types

(Local store has custom six packs for $11)

If it's your goal to give crappy cigars to non-smokers if suggest buying the absolute cheapest cigars available. After all they don't know the difference right? I think a box of Keep Moving Goodies can be had for about a buck plus tax. Shouldn't cost you more than say $10.

The next time a non-smoker mooches a cigar tell him to go make you a sammich.

.... I do enjoy sammiches.

I just picked up some White Gold Robusto's. That is what they can have. The band looks fancy enough that THEYLL NEVER KNOW.

I usually smoke the same as what I offer but I do keep a range of cigars I like....it seems odd to offer something different than you are smoking. .... .keeping in mind there are some special gars to be reserved for when around friends who can appreciate a finer smoke or for by yourself. If we want as many people to learn to appreciate cigars don't lower the bar below what you are willing to smoke with a guest.

Fair point that I hadn't considered. I do enjoy sharing all of my other interests with my friends, so logic follows I should do the same with my cigars. You are correct that I should do away with my mooch-a-dor.

I'll do it once these white golds are gone, because I'm not going to smoke em.... too mild.

Which exactly why generally don't offer non-smokers a cigar. If someone seems genuinely interested in the leaf, I offer them a cigar from my traveldor which is filled with cigars that I would smoke. But, why waste one on someone who only wants to look the part?

Honestly, youre not doing the non cigar smokers a disservice by handing them a cheap cigar. Now just because I said cheap I didn't say no good. There are some very cheap cigars that have good flavor but aren't so overbearing to a first time cigar smoker that he's gonna turn green and barf over the balcony.

I'd much rather hand a non smoker a cheap mild cigar then say a tat fausto only to have them get sick from the experience and never smoke a cigar again.

I got into smoking cigars because I was over at a buddies house and he went to his humidor and got a few cigars out for the group of us drinking on his back porch. My cigar was a robusto size habano that had no band on it and I lit it with a bic lighter but I was still happy with the cigar and I enjoyed it.

Complaining about a free cigar is like complaining about free beer. I wouldn't stress about this very much. Give the non cigar smoker a cigar and they most likely will be happy no matter what you hand them.

I think my problem making a decision on what to give a non-smoker is simple. I've only ever smoked full cigars. For 10 years now, its what I've smoked. The first cigar I had was full bodied.

I've tried a mild cigar here and there, and because of how mild they were I had problems enjoying them.

I wouldn't know a good mild cigar if it was staring me in the face, because most of them taste like air to me.

Let's rephrase my initial request:

Anyone have any Mild Cigar Suggestions for my Once in a blue moon smoker humidor?

worst i carry is flor de oliva

grabbed them for less than $1/stick

they are mild with a hint of sweetness - a profile most non cigarists enjoy

and i dont have a problem grabbing one ocassionally as well

anyone who claims to enjoy hand rolled cigars i let choose what they want

(if i just invented the term cigarist youre welcome)

Nothing wrong with a good inexpensive cigar.

Also i ask the guest what they usually smoke and if they dont ever then i might steer them to something like a flor de oliva natural as a starter cigar. I would too unless i am in mood for something else, i will still offer the same i am smoking with a caveat that it is strong flavored or spicy and a novice will usually decline. No point in them turning green or otherwise getting turned off.

Let the person feel they are picking something tailored to them rather than being left out. This works for everything but cubans because everyone wants to try a cuban regardless.

Hey now, I've enjoyed my brief time here. I'm planning on sticking around. I may not post religiously but my home PC is busted until I go get a soldering iron, so I can only poke around on here at work.

Nice to meet you too, Whistlebritches.

Whistle was right. The Zero lasted 2 years. Not bad but not great either.
