Back in the day, I think Pepin rolled a Limited Edition 6x60 1932 for Padilla called the "Nixonian" . . . but I could be wrong. d'oh!

Larger ring gauges seem more common all the time.

They do make good 2 hour yard gars and they are a progression from the popular nub 4x60 size. It's America - bigger is better.

Personally I like robustos or lanceros better, especially with stronger cigars.

Ring gauge preference is an interesting thing. I prefer something in the 52-54 range but will occasionally go up to 60 or down to 46. However, it's a feel thing rather than a taste thing.

When Conan sent my noob hit, he provided several with smaller gauges getting me out of my comfort zone. And that's a good thing.

IMO larger ring gauges are great when you have time on your hands such as yard work, tailgating, boating ,ect.

You got it - but here in Texas, it seems like there's about three good weeks a year to smoke a "Texas lancero" or other giant cigar unless it's early in the morning. So, I let them rest until November...

It's the trend.
Generally larger ring gauge can be believed to ring more flavor but not necessarily more strength. Take a "strong" cigar down to a petite corona and it's going to turn into a firecracker on you.
Some cigars when they're blended are blended for a larger ring gauge. San Cristobal was mentioned which has are phenomenal and those are all largish ring gauge cigars.
I've even had some of the 80 ring jaw crackers. There's a time commitment for ya.

I take the big ones golfing. I was buying 6 x 60s early on, but I don't buy them anymore... I only have one left in my entire stock (a DPG Black).

I think the reason they are always on auction is that they're not big sellers at full retail.

I prefer Churchills or Toros for golfing now.

I was just talking about this with a friend last night, then we decided to find what the largest ring gauge currently in production was... as far as we can find its Bazukas Cigars "El Monstruo" its 8.5x140
