Padron Damaso

A lighter shade of Padron

Padron is a name synonymous with expertly crafted, highly regarded, powerhouse Nicaraguan cigars. Padron Damaso is a bit of a departure for the company; while still maintaining their strict attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship, this new blend offers a milder flavor profile which is a first for Padron. The blend has been reworked and tweaked for nearly a year to ensure that Damaso delivers the same richness, character, and depth of flavor Padron is famous for, except with a milder body.

Padron Damaso comes draped in a silky, smooth Connecticut-seed wrapper encasing a blend of Nicaraguan long leaves with an enchanting mild to medium-bodied profile. Flavors abound with nuances of sweet cream, cedar, complimenting notes of pepper and a mild spice. As Jorge Padron said, “It’s Connecticut, our way,” and this cigar will simply bewitch you. Padron Damaso is a must have for fans of Padron cigars or enthusiasts of the Connecticut wrapper.

No. 17 (Churchill) (7.0"x54).....Mild-Medium.....SINGLE: $17.50

.......$17.50!!!!! Would bet my last smoke it's not all that much better, if at all, then the best Connecticuts around like Perdomo Champagne, ESV2002, Grand Cru 2006, or 12-Year Aged. We shall see. Shame on you

Think I'll have to pass on this... not a big fan of Connecticut wrappers, definitely not a fan at a $15 price point.

Padron understands two things:

1) For most retail cigar stores, mild-to-medium is the best selling segment of the market.
2) There's a lot of money to be made in high-end Connecticut wrapped cigars. Ashton has made a nice living off that niche for a long time now.

Based on the price point, I'd guess that Padron doesn't really care that much about the Perdomo smokers; they're aimed at people who smoke Ashton or Diamond Crown. As a line extension, it makes sense -- smokers already recognize Padron as a $20 cigar company anyway.

Interesting comment about "the best Connecticuts around" ... my list is entirely different from yours, as I've never been a big fan of Perdomo. I like a Connecticut cigar to start the day (I'll smoke 3 - 4 cigars on a work day); my favorites are Ashton Cabinet, Oliva Connecticut Reserve, and My Father.

.....My Father is an excellent smoke. As is Ashton Cabinet. Oliva is good as well but to mild for my liking. As for Perdomos, their good flavor and quality compare to them all at a cheaper price.

.....I smoked the monster 7"x54 Padron Damaso Churchill, $17.50 + tax. Unless you have a strong desire to burn every new blend made as I do avoid it and invest elsewhere. The first two blends that popped into my head as a flavor compare where the the 7"x54 Gispert Churchill and the 7.25"x54 John Bull Prime Minister, two smokeable, but very generic Connecticut wrapped blends. What a huge disappointment. I'd rate it maybe 85, compared to My Father Connecticut which I rated 94. Hell, I even rated Oliva Reserve an 88.
