I have a 5'er of Montecristo Media Noche No. 2 currently resting, and a 5'er of Platinum Toro's on the way. I have heard many good things about Montectristo, especially the CC. Any opinions on the NC versions I mentioned above? Are they worth the average stick price of $5 -$7 ea?

Another I am interested in trying is the Julius Caesar, anyone tried any of these?

I enjoyed the Media Noche from a few years back, not sure if it's still the same as I haven't had one in a loooong time.
The JCaesar didn't do much for me personally but ymmv!

Have not tried the Media Noche or Platinum, but really enjoy the Espada. Enough that I'm willing to pay retail (for singles). At the $11-14 price point, they're not an everyday smoke however.

My favorite was the Delacroix tubos.

Never to come back.

I enjoy the white label as a change of pace. The new blend isn't bad either.

I haven't had more than one or two of the non-cc Montecristos so I wouldn't know.

On the other hand, last night I had a nice #2 that Ben sent me about 6 months ago. My friend and I met up last night for a couple cigars. I bought the first round and shared a HdM EE with him and I had the Monte. He bought the second round.

Platinum is decent.

Media Noche is ok in robusto only.

Agree with Jamie on the platinum, although lots of better cigars for the same price...

The espada is a really hot seller right now... Haven't had one so I can't comment but only heard good things... Except for the price...

I' ve had the Media Noche in robusto and thought it was just okay as nothing reallly stood out to me. I've also had the Jacopa no 2 and thought that was okay definitely not worth msrp to me. The dominican Montecristo's don't do anything for me as well as for a lot of people but give me a Cuban no 2 and i'm in heaven.

Would love to actually try a CC, have not been lucky enough to run across one yet. Though maybe in the near future, but one can only hope.....

I had a Montecristo Epic Selection '07 that was gifted to me (2 actually still have one).

It was pretty good actually, reminded me of an AJ Fernandez only twice the price.

Obviously I wouldn't buy one because if I wanted an AJ Fernandez smoke, I can get them for 3 bucks a stick... but in any case, it wasn't bad.

Monte #2s however (Hope it smoked well for you Anthony), oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

You couldn't have said it better Wheel. You took the words right out of my mouth. They are way, way overpriced.

Why would you pay $5.00 to $7.00 a stick for "decent" or "ok.? You can pay a whole lot less and get a whole lot more with other sticks.

I had a platinum when I first started smoking. Not worth the price IMO way way tooooo mild. But if thats your kind of thing go for it! I've got a media noche I havent smoked yet.

The Monte (jacopo, conde, etc.) was pretty good and price wasn't bad at the shpo

The sticks I got were here on CBID, so I didn't pay MSRP on them, I got the Noche for about $2.00 a stick, because they came with a 5 stick Herf-a-dor and a lighter all for $30 shipped.

I did pay about $5 a stick for the platinum, but was basing off of the price from the mothership and name recognition. So took a chance there, we will see.

They are OK, nothing special. Many better cigars at $5-$7 to be had here.

I've never even bothered with the non cuban montes or cohibas. They never get good praise or reviews here so why bother especially for the price they ask for them. If I want a cuban monte or a cohiba then I'll order some.

Not to sound like a total newb, but can we order these in the States? This may or may not be a sensitive subject anymore, I have not kept up with were things stand on diplomatic ties, other than we have resumed some relations. I did go to a website for Cohiba and wanted to order some but it said they wouldn't ship to US. That has been some time ago though.

Well you did sound like a total newb. If it's in your nature to break the law or take a chance on fakes, there's ways - or you could just be patient grasshopper.

With diplomatic relations starting to change over the last few months, you never know, and it doesn't hurt to ask..... Heck, if they could be ordered legit/legal, I want to explore the possibility. Drool

The wife and I are exploring possibly taking a cruise or going to the Dominican Republic for vacation in a couple of months, maybe I can get a taste then. Though I have read fakes are abundant even in Caribbean countries.

If you want a Cuban cigar in the DR, order it before you go and take it with you. You have a MUCH better chance of getting a real one that way. Unless LCdH has opened a store there, but IIRC, there isn't one.

RE: NC Montecristo Media Noche - had the churchill and it was barely an average smoke which I tossed a little past half-way. Don't know if it would've gotten better if I kept smoking, but I didn't care to find out.

The nc H. Upmann Media Noche is much better. Smoked both the robusto and the toro, and they were above average and are priced about the same as the nc Montecristo.
