Anyone ever had a cigar completely overpower/clog their pallet?

It's a good cigar first off, found a honey of a deal too.
It's not over powering, the flavor is certainly unique but not a power house smoke.

Smoked the first one a few nights ago, then lit a My Father #1 and it tasted like absolute blah chit. Figured it might have been an off night, tired from holiday.
Next night started off with a MF#1, tasted fine, no problem at all. Excellent as a matter of fact
Tonight, decided to start off with a Candy Cane again, same thing. Killed my pallet took forever to clear out, rest and a few glasses of Basil Hayden helped.

None of the Viaje blends I've smoked have done this, no other cigar has ever done this to me in 20 years as a matter of fact. Just plain weird.
I'm wondering if it's the Brazilian Arapiraca in the wrapper, a local cigar maker Vicaris makes the Invictus using the same wrapper and the taste was akin to it. I have a box of the Holiday Blend coming, fully wrapped in the same Brazilian wrapper leaf, really curious to see if they do the same.

I just find that if I've not taken a break for a few days I don't taste much from my cigars. Doesn't matter what cigars they are.

I've had it happen (only with one cigar to my knowledge).

Sucks when you find out a cigar you like is actually a "palate clogger".

Zody, I've smoked a 15' Holiday blend. Strong Nicaraguan taste, didn't even think it was a BA wrapper as those usually have a unique sweetness to them. Didn't wreck my palate.

Guess I'll have to try the Candy Cane I got now.

Save them for the last smoke of the day. There's a few cigars I'll only smoke if it's the last one, or only one of the day.

Let me know how you fare with the Candy Cane Jamie, it's been weird. Good stick but flat clogged my palet both times I smoked it, same way.
Certainly going to be saving them for a one cigar night sessions.
I'll routinely enjoy 2-4 cigars in a night and be able to taste and enjoy them all. This was a first "bad flavor trip" for me.
Freaked me out a little when I lit that MF#1. I thought WTFH?!? I remember these tasting great, this has turned to pure chit, yuck!!

Just smoked the '15 Holiday Blend, totally different flavor experience.
The Candy Cane palet phenomenon is in the wrapper mix, the blend, or both.

I'm seriously curious to see if anyone else has the same experience with the '15 Candy Cane.

daily smoking causes tons of changes to taste in general, from the shape of the taste buds to the blood flow, etc as well as altering ones sense of smell which is also crucial in taste. (i know that is not what the op is talking about specifically but just an fyi for those who don't know)

The Candy Cane and the Holiday Blend, completely different cigars.

I happened upon the perfect serendipitous pairing though. The palate clogging, or rather dominating character of the blend pair absolutely perfect with a good strong and complex Islay single malt.
I grabbed a bottle of Ardbeg 10 year and it was pairing perfection. The iodine of the sea environment, the peat, absolutely perfect.
I wouldn't plan on starting with this, but for a closer or a single cigar treat for the night, utterly perfect.

I'm really thinking about trying some contacts to see if the either of the wrapper leaves or the blend are grown in a seaside or near seaside environment.
Anyone have any thoughts?
