Let me set the stage for you all. It was 1995 and I was a 25 year old Long Islander whose Grandfather had taken me to Belmont race track since he was 10 and taught me to appreciate just what a superb athlete thoroughbred race horses were.

Of course the betting was fun but to really enjoy the athleticism of the jockey's as well as the horses has always stuck with me.

Anyway, on this rainy day at Belmont Park was the Breeders Cup. The race prior to this was the Turf Classic and I just hit the trifecta for over $400...I was living large.

This horse named Cigar was undefeated this year and was looking to wrap up an amazing season. Not wanting to miss this I didn't cash my big winning ticket but instead made my way over to the finish line at Belmont Park because I wanted to close up view at the end of this race. I stood there for 45 minutes as the crowd started to make its way down. I was anchored a the best spot in the place.

Finally as it was post time and the horse were in the gate..... this happened

It was very cool. What I forgot to mention was I brought a cigar to the track that day in hopes to light it up in celebration. It was a Dutch Masters I bought at 7-11 that morning.

Like I said...living large.

Had the pleasure of watching him run at Arlington Park in 96,it's a shame it's a dying sport (I blame it on the casinos and boats here in Illinois). Now I've got the itch to head out to the OTB tonight!Beer

The Partagas 150 !
I've had the pleasure of smoking about a dozen or so of them, thanks to gimbel and the RAOK he gave me at mjtoal's Cigar-B-Q a few years ago, and also Chris (liverocks) for hooking me up at his local.
namadio also was generous enough to include one in his "thank you" RAOK he sent me for turning him on to Cupido Tuxedo's.

There are still some P-150's floating around, but the price has skyrocketed BEYOND belief, so I guess they will be just a fond memory for me.

I was super sad when my local finally sold out.

We do still have the cifuentes 2001 or something like that though. Came out in the same massive chest as one of the P150 samplers or something.
