He opened for Aerosmith at Shoreline Ampitheatre.....some time in the mid 90s, took my wife on a date.......and she wasn't to sure about seeing an "old" man band.

Fans were milling about, waiting for the real show, but after the second song, he had the crowd's attention, and admiration. He kicked azz, made a lot of new fans that night.
Also, we got lucky, cause Aerosmith was "on" that night as well.......they put on a hell of a show, and the wife became an Aerosmith fan.

As I sit and smoke my El Brujito, my memory kicked in..............I'm pretty sure Steven Tyler yelled out to the audience something like "can you believe this kid is only 16 years old?!!"............when he was giving props to Lang.

Johnny is good. Stevie was the BEST. This is one of his best songs. I love it.

I would add three more to the list, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jeff Healy, and Johnny Winter.

Might've been...Been real keen on him...Joe Bonamassa, Keb Mo, Seasick Steve, and the others mentioned can flat out "Git It".

Been listening to Johnny Lang for years. Pretty dang good.

If you like Lang you have to try Kenny Wayne Shepherd but, don't stop there. Look up Derek Trucks, Tedeschi Trucks
Band to be specific. Might be the best slide player to come around since Johnny Winter.

Chris Duarte isn't too shabby either but, a completely different style of blues.

Joe Bonamassa, very over rated IMHO. Not a huge fan of his style. He did learn from the
very best, however, and that would have been Danny Gatton.

I have a part to install that lowers my trigger release from 7 1/2 lbs to 4 1/2 lbs. The Glock trigger isn't bad at all, it's striker mechanism has a cold feel to it compared to my H&K or any "regular" DA trigger. And with the mag extension the grip is much better than some other pocket pistols I've looked at.

Nearly 20 years ago, Columbia House CD Club ("8 CD's FOR A PENNY!!) sent me Lie to Me by accident (instead of either RATM Evil Empire or Tool AEnima, IIRC.)

I looked at the track list and when I read "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", I thought wtf is this?? Audio kiddie porn?

Called Columbia House and they told me to keep it. After one listen, I was hooked. No way this kid was 15! Tons of talent. First couple albums are his best.

Geeeeeez....Joe Bonamassa...."yawn"

"Wow Joe you play crap written 70 years ago real good...I know they are originals but my statement stands"....

Good player but come up with something. He is like the guitar version of Tony Royster Jr. Way ahead of their age early, major hype....turned out to be quality musicians and all...but not all that outstanding.

RIP Mr SRV....you have set the bar to high

That's awesome news.

I've been too busy and haven't picked up a bass in a long time. Too much to do out in the country!

Still playing with the same band?

No one's mentioned Mato Nanji, front man for Indigenous. Saw them years and years ago open for Lang at Chastain Park in Hot 'lanta. Incredible!!!! Still one of the best shows ever. The two of them played a few duel numbers at the endof Jonny's set.

Its all the same...I mean I like listening to this genre once in a while ( 99% its SRV, Skinnerd or the best country rock/prog band Molly Hatchet and Indigenous is no where ear that level)....but it hasn't changed in 70 years...I can jump on stage with any blues band, not knowing the material and you would think I was in the band from day one...is old and dated, sounds good but its tired.

Just gotta stop putting these players as best of anything but playing recycled music.

Hello and welcome to 1996. Tell me, what color is your rock and does it have indoor plumbing?

That kid blew up the scene 20 years ago when he was 15. Beats is right though, it all starts to sound the same after a while.

Uh well....no...I don't own one..but there has been nothing new in that genre for 70 years, not saying it sucks, it has its place, good jams and all, I do enjoy it when in the mood, but just been so done so the same for so long...when they are mentioned as "best" in a genre that's so stagnant is well...best at doing what everyone else is and has been doing...uh...yeah

Innovation, creation, adaptation, change..then you can use "best'...which is all silly and subjective anyway.

Gerbs!

No true, techno blues is relatively new. A good example would be Little Axe.

Why do you suppose that is?

I would guess that perhaps mainstream, if not rich, white guys can imitate all right...but blues....real blues...came from an entirely different segment of society

or...maybe...many purist aficionados of any genre tend to turn their noses up anything that comes later...whether derivative or truly innovative

Very well said...and true for hundreds of years.... Most acclaimed classical composers of the past where looked down upon by critics in their times.

I dont even want to know what "Techno Blues" is....sounds sketchy....How can techno...no Ill stop there

Hey wait.... this is the cigar forum...uh...I like Bolivar Coffradia Cuban Coronas...
