Noticed today that they have 2 sizes of this cigar. One is 6" and the other (newer?) is 7". This is the third cigar under the Gurkha name that I have found noticeable variations in.

Only the third?
Tony, it' Gurkhaaaaa......there's prolly two dozen or more with variations, inconsistencies, band differences, ring gauge differences, etc.................Hansotia has like 1000 different cigars I think

Tony,

When I first started smoking, Gurkha was still offering some decent cigars and " some consistency " but it hasn't been that way for a number of years and I pretty much waved them off. It is a shame as they did have a few blends I enjoyed, but that was then and this is now and they're TOO INCONSISTENT to bother with anymore for me.

K Hansotia doesn't MAKE any cigars, he doesn't have a FACTORY. HE farms out all production and sells licensing to various outfits.

When Torano did the majority of his actual work, they had many good offerings.

One thing not to overlook before the "boutique boom" there were some lower level manufacturers pumping out some great affordable cigars. Now there's some many I believe that the better tobacco is fewer and farer between for that arrangement. The long haul isn't the majority outlook unfortunately.

I remember years ago reading an article somewhere about the process K Hansotia selected his tobacco. Basically he'll buy up older tobacco lots that have been sitting in backstock for quite sometime it doesn't exactly matter where he gets it from he just buys it in bulk or he'll grab up a ton of old stock via tobacco auctions for cheap. He might get A warehouse of brazilian tobaccos in India, perhaps a warehouse in Saudi with some costa rican and then he has it shipped to a factory. He's got the marketing benefit of saying the cigars are aged but the blends/vitolas for the cigars aren't ever quite the same. So there's no guarantee that the tobaccos for let's say a Gurkha "Symphony" will come from the same farms or even the same quality the second time around.

That's why he has more blends than Rocky Patel, because he picks up as much short run stock as he can for pennies on the dollar.

He said it isn't a perfect process but the tobaccos are still of high quality. Which may be the case but I'm appalled by how **** these tobaccos actually burn and taste. I'm sure the first run Gurkhas were great considering these cigars were meant to be a Duty Free only cigar that were meant to be out of the hands of people who did not have the money to travel but nowadays Gurkha is just not worth the time and hasn't been for at least 10 years.

So if your wondering why the Gurkha Grand Age you bought in 2004 were only sold in perfectos and that same cigar blend is now only sold as a Churchill there's your answer, it's pretty much an entirely different cigar.

The only camel that's getting boned is the one he has in the back of the warehouse.

But is ir Kazad on the licensing that has diminished the brand. I still have some older Gurkhas that are as good or better than anything on the market.

About 10 years ago my local B&M ran a deal that if you bought a box of Gurkhas, you received a ticket that gave you a chance to win a cabinet size Gurkha humidor with cigars. Well somehow my number was pulled out of about 300. It came with about 200 cigars. I really enjoyed most of them, especially the Shaggy's & Beast's. Still have a bunch of the ones that came in as a 5 pack in a metal container. The newer blends are crap compared to the older ones.

I gave it to my son in law who still has it, but I kept most of the cigars😀. Have not seen it for a while as it is in his man cave & I still can't smoke. From what I Remember, the upper part is all glass with some etchings on it while the bottom part is a cabinet with draws for box storage. It holds about 1,000+ cigars.
Give me a few/several days to dig out & post a picture of it. I don't know what it is worth but when I first won it, I was offered $3,000 for it. Personally, I felt it was worth at least a grand.

Think so you didn't take the $3000 because you thought it was worth at least $1000? Think

It is a Gurkha product so it probably has a MSRP of $100,000.00 but sold to the dealer at 92% off.Herfing
