Washington D.C. – First Grandma Marian Robinson, 79, will receive a lifetime 160K government pension when she leaves the White House next year, according to congressional budget statements.

According to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Mrs. Robinson earned the lifetime pension for “services rendered as full-time/in-home caregiver” for granddaughters Malia, 18, and Sasha, 15, during President Obama’s two terms in office.
In January of 2009, it was reported that Mrs. Robinson was living in the White House full-time to tend to her granddaughters. She was the first live-in grandmother at the White House since Elivera M. Doud, the mother of Mamie Eisenhower, during the Eisenhower Administration.

Critics say Mrs. Robinson should not profit from something as simple as taking care of family. Sally Kellner, volunteer/activist for the National Taxpayers Union, says this is a prime example of needless spending. “I think it’s ridiculous that taxpayers must pay this woman a lifetime salary for something everyday Americans do for free. We take care of our families because we love them, not for profit.”

When asked if Mrs. Robinson’s lifetime pension was justified, Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, declined to comment but said a special oversight committee would review all post-Obama Administration budgetary obligations.

Before her son-in-law became President of the United States, Mrs. Robinson had never been abroad. Now, after almost eight years of being the nation’s Grandmother-In-Chief, she’s a seasoned world traveler who has, accompanied by her granddaughters, been to Senegal, Tanzania, China and Italy, where she even met the Pope.

“She’s been the rock of the family,” says Obama family friend and biographer Peter Slevin. “It’s been a real blessing for the girls (Malia & Sasha) to have their grandma with them during these formative years,” he said.

Shortly after the 2008 presidential election, President Obama called Robinson “One of the unsung heroes” of his campaign, and said, “We couldn’t have done it without her.” First Lady Michelle Obama has said that if Robinson had not been available to step in and watch over the girls, Obama might never have launched his campaign.

While holding no official job title, Mrs. Robinson likely qualified for her lifetime pension under the “optional” eligibility requirement for the Civil Service Retirement Act (CSRS).

Claim: Marian Robinson, First Lady Michelle Obama's mother, will receive a lifetime pension of $160,000 from the U.S. government.
FALSE

Origin:On 17 October 2016, the Boston Tribune web site published an article reporting that Marian Robinson, the mother of First Lady Michelle Obama, would be receiving a lifetime pension of $160,000 per year from the United States government from having served as caretaker to the First Couple's children during Barack Obama's tenure in the White House:

According to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Mrs. Robinson earned the lifetime pension for “services rendered as full-time/in-home caregiver” for granddaughters Malia, 18, and Sasha, 15, during President Obama’s two terms in office.

In January of 2009, it was reported that Mrs. Robinson was living in the White House full-time to tend to her granddaughters. She was the first live-in grandmother at the White House since Elivera M. Doud, the mother of Mamie Eisenhower, during the Eisenhower Administration.

Sally Kellner, volunteer/activist for the National Taxpayers Union, says this is a prime example of needless spending. “I think it’s ridiculous that taxpayers must pay this woman a lifetime salary for something everyday Americans do for free. We take care of our families because we love them, not for profit.”

There was no truth to this report. The Boston Tribune is a fake new site that masquerades as the online arm of a legitimate big-city newspaper in order to lure readers with fabricated clickbait stories.

The Boston Tribune article provided links to the general landing pages of the National Taxpayers Union, FOIA.gov, and the Civil Service Retirement System, both those links did not point to any relevant information.

The Former Presidents Act of 1958 provides lifetime benefits for presidents after they leave office. This law also provides some benefits for former first ladies (such as Secret Service protection), but not lifetime pensions for them (or their parents).

As the First Lady does not receive a salary or a pension, it is reasonable to assume that the unofficial position of "first grandma" is also unpaid and is similarly ineligible for a government pension.

The Boston Tribune is an offshoot of the fake Associated Media Coverage web site, which has previously published false stories claiming that Florida store owners killed 31 looters after Hurricane Matthew, that the practice of "open carry" was being banned in the United States," and that convicted murderer Jodi Arias had been released from prison.

Should have checked before I posted. But good to know that you depend on the accurate accounts from ABC, NBC, BSNBC, CBS and CNN.

Burner... Did you just compare a "news" story from a satirical website (this literally took 2 seconds to realize it smelled bad, and another 2 seconds to find that it's a satirical article) to actual news stations?

You do realize that no matter how biased they may (or may not) be, there is a difference between these sites and a site that makes sh%t up from nothing, right?

What's hilarious is you immediately grabbed that story and gave it more credibility than you give actual news sites, just because it confirmed what you expected.

For what it's worth, this is also not true about Congressmen and women. Except for the President, what any federal employee receives after retirement is based on number of years of service and how much they made. not certain, but I think it is like 1.1 percent for each year of service times the average of some number of months pay. Military retirement is a different formula.

Did TCBY just use a thread about a completely fabricated story against Obama as a platform to complain that people will believe any pro Clinton story?

It's like he has no sense of irony...

MACS... This is actually a pretty common occurrence here. I'm not sure if it's skewed because this is a right leaning (hah! Leaning...) site, but the number of times a right winger posts an article that's pure satire because it reinforces their preconceptions about Obama (or Clinton or Pelosi)... Then I have to hear how the media is against them.... When it's clear they don't have the ability to judge incoming information for veracity...

I've gotten caught by a satire site before... But it wasn't a political topic and definitely not something I'm particularly tied to. With those topics I know we'll enough to double check anything which jibes too well with my expectations.

Macs, you are very correct in that karma has away of arriving on scene when least expected. Being ridiculed on a cigar forum is not a big deal in the overall scheme of things. All one has to do is take a look around to realize this. If the gerbils have to take a victory lap to feel good about them selves, so be it.
