Had a box shipped to the house Friday... opened it Saturday, 2 of the 10 cigars have beetle holes... immediately stuck the contents in a Ziploc freezer bag, into the freezer they went...

This morning, the sender credited my account for the full cost of the box...

Soooo.... what to do with the other 8? They didn't show any signs of infestation, but I'm hesitant to mingle them with my other cigars....

Smoke em. Once you have properly deep frozen the cigars, you should be okay. If you are still concerned you can, quarantine then in a small tupperdore or dry box.
They should be fine after thawing out.

Cover the holes with fingers like you are playing a flute and smoke away.

I heard it was opposite day on snopes... everything they say is false is actually true, and vice-versa...snopes says it's false, so I'm pretty sure it's true...

It was!!! One of the beat-the-fda cigars I've never heard of/never smoked...

oddly enough, when working at the shop, I only saw a beetle hole twice... once in a La Aroma de Cuba, and once in a Oliva V Melanio...

shame on you macs for believing I'd smoke a pirates gold...

.
I have a huge number of cigars and have been collecting them since forever, haven't frozen anything, and have never had a single problem.

24x7x365 climate-controlled room (between 60-67 degrees F) and 2-way humidity control, both permanently in effect.

I really think the temperature control is the key. If you cap temperatures where I do, it's lilkely that nothing will ever happen beetle-wise.

Some of you guys might burn me at the stake for saying this, but I have my doubts about whether or not freeezing really is as benign and harmless as its proponents claim. When you really think about it on a chemical and physics level, it's quite possible that it may reduce flavor or cause other problems, even if the magnitude of the damage is subtle, and thus hard to directly measure.

Just my two cents.

We smoke cigars, our taste buds are wrekt.

To the noobs out there without a 60 degree dungeon... freeze, you won't be able to tell the difference, trust me.

Wrong.
Speak for yourself.
I personally am still able to detect the ****taking (sp?) mushroom flavor on a well aged Ron Mexico.

Hey Mittens.....don't know what you're smoking but alot of manufacturer's freeze them before you get your pudding on them.

It does nothing. The key is getting them as cold as possible like a commercial freezer.

Yep, some freeze, some fumigate, some do both, is my understanding. Thing is, for the ones who don't freeze, there might be a small advantage in not doing it myself once I get the sticks. Or not. Opinions differ, but they do lean toward "it makes no difference". However I haven't experimented to verify that myself.

However, I've never had any problems, and the cigar storage room is never allowed to get above around 67 F, plus freezing new arrivals is a pain and freezing all my EXISTING stock would be an UNBELIEVABLE pain in the ass.

So it's not for me. I really do see the value though, for people in other situations, or with other opinions.

If I had to do it all over again, starting with having no cigars at all, I'd strongly consider doing it.

How old is old Ron now? Do you make him take a shower first at least?

Poison vs freezing - I'll go with the latter.

I'd pickup some propest pheronet pantry pest traps and put 1/2 of one in each of your humidors? These will draw them out and then you can freeze & quarantine the affected cigars.
