I guess I am just late to the party regarding change of ownership at Colibri. Some of my favorite lighters have been Colibris. I don't have many, but they have always been my preferred lighter. One that I have had for a few years finally stopped working, If memory serves me correctly, these came with a lifetime warranty. Yesterday, I called Colibri only to find out the original Colibri company went bankrupt two years ago and was bought out. The original warranties are no longer valid, and the new version of the company has no replacement parts or service department to repair any lighters. Buyers beware.

Colibri - The Gurkhas of lighters.... I tried a couple/few Colibri lighters from cbid, largely because they looked cool...and they could be had for well below MSRP. The best of them lasted most of a month

Odd...my favorite and best lighter is the Colibri Talon. Have 3, all at least 2-3 years old and still going strong, whereas I have 4 higher end Xikars waiting to be sent back for repair.

I'd have probably written the same about Xikar lighters....except that I have one outlier that manages to work after 4-5 years

I had a bunch of the colibri refill lighters.... gifted a bunch of them, had 3 i used in regular rotation... as long as i used colibri butane they worked great... after 3 or 4 years i got tired of messing with them... hard to beat an Eagle torch... $6, holds a lot of fuel, and it's a powerful single flame torch...

dealextreme....not the best....not the longest lasting....(but very reliable lights until they break)....not the fastest shipping.....but....by far the cheapest, and by far, the biggest tanks.....buy a dozen for less than the cost of one Colibri or Xikar and you will be set for many years

Translation: cheap disposable crap they're having private-labelled for them by some sweatshop in China. Buy Xikar instead.

You must not live near a CI brick-and-mortar store, because you can walk into one of them, hand them any non-functional Xikar products, and they'll simply hand you equivalent new-in-box versions right off the Xikar display shelves. No receipts or other paperwork, no ID, no nothing.

30 seconds and you walk out with new gear. Repeat whenever necessary, forever. I've already done it a few times, once even replacing two dead lighters in the same transaction. No problem at all.

Not really. I think the idea is that the lighter/cutter ITSELF has the warranty, irrespective of who owns it, so as long as you're holding the dead Xikar product, it doesn't matter who you are.

And yes, it's awesome. Thoroughly awesome. You buy them ONCE, and forever after, all your lighter problems are solved for $0.00 in a few seconds and with zero hassle.

He may have been eluding to no ID being needed to vote, and did a little cross threading.

I've had great luck with my JetLine lighter. In fact I had a double xikar lighter that never worked quite right, then I got the JetLine as a gift. Works like a charm until this day.

Thanks, Steve....I hate having to explain myself. But, I should know better than letting Politics threads seep out of their sandbox

What? Do you mean to tell me that cows can't vote?

At least in Chicago, I know they can!

There are no cows in Chicago since the fire.

Got the Talons here for $10-$13.When you pay a hefty price for a lighter like Xikar you shouldn't have to return them every couple months, just got tired of doing that and threw them in a drawer. P.S. Dave I like the new avatarAnxious

It's years, not months, and the "hefty price" is only for people who don't wait for sales.

For example, a few years back, CI offered this package deal for $22:

1 Xikar 5-count Herf-a-dor clone in cool fluorescent orange.
1 Xikar double-guillotine cutter
1 Xikar Stratosphere lighter (high-altitude capable)
5 Xikar HC cigars.

If you figure the cigars were $2 each, that means the lighter, cutter and box cost a combined total of about $12, and all three of them are infinitely replaceable over-the-counter in 30 seconds for zero dollars with no paperwork or hassle, for the rest of your life.

Combine that with replacement intervals measured in years, and I can't conceive of anything that comes anywhere close to matching, let alone beating, that value.

My first torch was a Colibri. Wifey bought it as a gift. If it was not a gift from my wife I would have thrown that POS against a wall years ago. As it is it sits in a drawer forever worthless.

Bought a DuPont MaxiJet over ten years ago and although I have dropped it countless times on concrete it never fails.

I bought a quad torch at a bucky's for $3 back in 2006 and it lasted me until 2012 when I got drunk and lost it. I never spend the cash on Xikar or Colibri or any of the known brands anymore. The gas stations always sell reliable torches around here.

Had bought a colibri that looked like a little silver flask. Set it down at a family gather and it grew legs and walked.

really liked it.

The Colibri Talon is my all-time favorite lighter. I have a couple still in the box to replace the current ones I will lose at some point. The Xikar Stratosphere is another favorite.

Glad I stocked up a couple years ago.

For pipes I'm a Zippo gal. I got the pipe inserts for them and I'm happy. I couldn't light a pipe or cigar with matches without using half a box.

I had a Ronson jetlite that lasted almost 7 years. Just used vector fuel in it and it was very dependable, though the tank wasn't the biggest. Now I'm using some Rockey Patel lighter that was a late friends, works well after I fixed it, the small hose from tank to jet had come undone, popped it back on and works a treat. Hate to think he stopped using it for that minor repair. :-(

Well, the other point of view is this:
It's just a cheapo lighter.
And thus, had it not "broken", in all likelihood, your friend would have used it until it did really break, or lost it, or given it away, etc.

Instead, you ended up with it. Now, every time you use it, you're thinking of him, even if just for a few moments.
That's pretty fuqin cool imho.

It's very cool indeed. I still have, and use, a lot of things my late father owned and used. Every time I pick one of them up, I think of him. It's a kind of continuity between the folks still here, and the folks of yesteryear. A connecting thread.

I hope the lighter keeps working for a very long time.

I get a lot of Ronsons but they never seem to work again after refilling. I have tried every suggestion in the book and it doesn't seem to help. Maybe I just need to buy better butane for them.
