LANSING, Mich. – Flint's water system no longer has levels of lead exceeding the federal limit, a key finding that Michigan state environmental officials said Tuesday is good news for a city whose 100,000 residents have been grappling with the man-made water crisis.

Flint's lead levels are again comparable to other U.S. cities, state officials told Associated Press ahead of an official announcement.

"This is good news and the result of many partners on the local, county, state and federal levels working together to restore the water quality in the City of Flint," Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Heidi Grether said in a statement. "The Flint water system is one of the most monitored systems in the country for lead and copper, and that commitment will remain to ensure residents continue to have access to clean water."

Residents, whose mistrust in government remains high nearly three years after a fateful switch of the city's water source in April 2014, are being told to continue using faucet filters or bottled water because an ongoing mass replacement of pipes could spike lead levels in individual houses.

Flint's public health emergency began when officials failed to properly treat lead lines for corrosion.

The state acknowledged the lead problem in October 2015. Lead from old pipes leached into the water supply because corrosion-reducing phosphates were not added due to an incorrect reading of federal regulations.

Elevated levels of lead, a neurotoxin, were detected in children, and 12 people died in a Legionnaires' disease outbreak that experts suspect was linked to the improperly treated water.

Gov. Rick Snyder has apologized for the crisis that has largely been blamed on his administration.

LOL...I'm sure he's gonna take credit, as if people would believe you can actually remove lead from a water source that large in a few days. But his visit to the city during the campaign will make him think twice...

Thumpher visited Flint after Clinton did a few days earlier. After touring the local water treatment plant, he stood on stage at a church to address the gathered crowd. Instead of doing the expected and saying he was shocked that something like that could happen, hope the sickened population gets continued testing, and that he would speak to appropriate persons about a more rapid fix, he went into campaign mode and talked about Lying Hillary. The pastor of the church, a matronly woman, grabbed him by the elbow in mid-sentence, saying something about that's not what we're here for and hustled him off stage and out the door...the look of confused astonishment on his face was priceless...

He apologized only after four of his appointees to manage the city were criminally charged. They made the decision to save money by switching the city's water source to the toxic Flint River.
Several members of the State's Dept of Environmental Quality and Dept of Health and Human Services have also been criminally charged for providing erroneous data to support that cost saving decision. Criminal charges indicate the state's AG believes there was malicious intent or criminal negligence.

The investigation continues. I'm sure the AG is looking for evidence that the Gov. knew the water was bad and still approved the decision...

So.... getting down to business on a campaign tour... staying on track with mudslinging.... you'd rather him get rid of the main objective to give false sentiment?

Pointing out why he couldn't take credit for the fix...

...addressing your point...it didn't make sense for him to visit, unless he thought he had a chance for some votes...why spend time and money to go somewhere just to say stuff without hoping for a return? Happened around the time he was telling African Americans "what do you have to lose." So, he was just showing up in a tragic place to score points and to prove he could talk to blacks?

Well, he won, so he is certainly a brighter political thinker than me.

Unlike Hillary who refused to speak to audiences hostile to her, Trump chose to engage both supporters and detractors. I'd say that is a positive trait.

She went to West Virginia several times and actually sat down and spoke with groups of coal miners during the campaign. She tried to explain her position. Trump's visit looked more like a look at me photo-op...
