Why don't we see more Lonsdales?

Coronas are starting to be offered by more companies, thank goodness, but you still don't see many lonsdales. Maybe they're calling most of them something else, but it's probably my favorite vitola. I prefer under 50rg in general but have mostly robustos because they're so common. Why do you think we see so few lonsdales? Is it simply a matter of sales? If so, why don't more guys like them?

Names are really irrelevant these days.....for the most part.
Traditional lonsdale is what....6 by 40-42? Isn't it sometimes called a panatela??
It's kind or a "tweener" I suppose.....longer and thinner than a typical Corona, shorter and fatter than stinky Wombat's favorite vitola (lancero).

Maybe people prefer either a lancero or a corona?

I enjoy the vitola quite a bit

I think the historic Cuban size is a longer corona.

The ones I like are a little fatter than a corona and the length of a toro. Maybe like 45x6. A lot of manufacturers call that a Corona Gordo or Corona Larga? As KingoftheCove says, names are somewhat irrelevant anymore

It's normally 44-46. Thinner rg are lancero. Thinner yet are panatella.

Typically it's like a long corona. Corona is like 5-5.5 x 42-46. Lonsdale is usually around 6-6.5 x 44-46. They get grouped into the corona gorda/extra etc more than lanceros/panatella.

Yes, names are irrelevant, sadly. Marketing can't just leave them alone.

Yup corona gordas are my favorite 5-5/8x46 too. I also like short churchills 6x48 and of course fuente 8-5-8s. Never find the time for a true Churchill 7x49 but I like them also.

Yes sir, short Churchills are better than robustos and toros (all things being equal, which they never are).

eh.......depends on what you read......but 42 is what MOST "experts" say.....46?...no, cause at that thickness you headed into corona gorda, et al territory

eh..........it's all nonsense.
I pretty much prefer 5.5x44-46.......a corona I suppose.

Yes it is. With the popularity of bigger rg many iconic sizes have seen wiggle room. Robustos should only be. 5x50. Period. They're just too popular, but you're seeing more 5.2x52 or whatever being called Robustos. Do the marketing people think we'll feel like we're getting a better deal?

I think it just comes down to the blenders style, each one of us is different, each blender is different. With each trying to catch the eye of the consumer. Kristoff comes to mind with their robustos 5.5x54 ok whatever I don't care I still like them. Or maybe it's the shaggy foot and pigtail cap yup that's it.

Well the shaggy foot and pigtail are nods to the old Cuban style (from what I understand) and I'm cool with that.

Perdomo is another whose robustos aren't robustos. I agree -- if it's good it's good -- but call it something else. "Papa Nick's Humdinger" has a nice sound to it, don't you think?

Simple personal solution: ignore the name, only look at the numbers (e.g. 5x50, 6x54, etc.).

If you say, "It's a 5x54!" your blood pressure won't rise from having to say, "It's a Robusto!"

Of course, if that gets your blood pressure up you're a bit of a perfectionist or you're too pedantic, but oh well!

Whelp like any other industry were seeing "artist" of large companies doing things "their own way" and getting publicity for it. So yes it's a thing that just happens on purpose and not just something that they're trying to sneak by people. Their is no such thing as bad publicity. Aka Gurkha. Even gimmicks people fall prone to way to often become popular and then trend.

I don't worry about any of it. I buy what I like and smoke what I like, then leave the rest for everyone else.

Though, I'm a bit of a perfectionist when I comes to my humidor and coolerador. That scratches my OCD itch.

I don't have very many pyramids or torpedos but I do enjoy them. I use a diagonal cut on them and have had good luck.

Its easier to hide crap tobacco in fat cigars while charging more for them.

I kinda agree with elRopo but of course it's maker specific.

It's not so much about being OCD or semantics as much as it is about finding new cigars to try. If I like coronas and lonsdales but the maker calls it a No. 4 or "fancy schmancy whatzit" it won't come up in my search. I'm not picky about a particular size, just a size range. In the old days, you could see the stock first hand. Searching online is easier in some ways but more challenging in others.

One of my favorite cigars is a lonsdale (LFD Mystery Event) and would certainly like to see more of that vitola. Corona Gorda is close but not the same, little bit fatter and shorter generally. Anything 50 rg and under and generally 6 inches or shorter is the size I would go for in a new line or even existing lines that I have not tried.

I've noticed that Budweiser has cut back on their TV ads, prolly why we don't see more "lonsdales". Just a guess.

Don't let them tell you size isn't everything, it's a lie.

Lonsdales and panatelas? Better in windy environments, best choice for the freeway in a convertible, doesn't burn down the side as much ( 'cause who can remember to turn it every minute or so?). Also, different flavor emphasis because of different wrap/binder/fill ratio.
