FWIW, I'm not sure there is a greatest all time song. Way too many great songs to rank one above the other.

A list seems more appropriate. To it, I would add numerous songs by Pink Floyd, the Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, The Doors, Aerosmith, Little Richard, Styx, Lynryd Skynrd, Cream, The Band, BTO, Iron Maiden, Ozzy & Black Sabbath, Bob Seeger, Led Zepplin, Queen, GNR, the Eagles, Steppenwolf, Kansas, The Beatles, Journey, Metallica, Rush, The Who, Buddy Holley, The Kinks, Kiss, Boston. Did I leave anyone out?

Oops, forgot a few. BOC, The Animals, Derek & The Dominos, AC/DC, Machine Head, The Who, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Louis, Fats Domino, The Kinks, CCR, Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter, The Pretenders, Elvis, CS&N, Alice Cooper, etc, etc, etc...........................

For me, the 60's & 70's defined what started in the 50's rounded out by the 80's.

Pretty much. I like a lot of different music, but I'd bet most of what we listen to is the same or similar stuff.

When I think Rock N roll, I think 70's into 80's.... I also think a lot of the music from this timeframe was pretty terrible, with a few glowing diamonds hidden among the horse droppings. That said, I get a semi soft halfstack when I hear "Roundabout" By Yes. It's just such a good song, with a driving bass line, creative use of instruments, lyrics that mean nothing if you haven't heard the backstory on how they wrote it, and with winning lines like "Mountains come out of the sky; and they stand there!" how can you go wrong?

Also, reminds me a lot of smoking not-cigars-not-cigarettes in the garage with friends....

While i do not even say these next mentioned
Songs are " are the best"

They bear mentioning:

Nils Lofgren "CRY Tough" & "Keith don't go"
Are two RAW rock songs....
Neil Young " MONTEZUMA"
Neil's two latest albums are fantastic.
The Doors ( just about any song)
Steppenwolf ( 2 or 3 great songs)
Canned Heat ( 2 great songs)
On and on and on

Most of the time I listen to Classic Vinyl or Classic Rewind on Sirius. The rest of the time I'll listen to Comfortably Numb on Pandora.

Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower - Totally transformed Dylan's song

Cream - Sunshine or White Room

Hard to argue a Stone's pick

As much as I don't like them, it would be hard to argue something from GnR. I'd probably say Sweet Child o Mine
