Where to sell one's cigars?

I got into cigars many years ago and went nuts buying, then mostly got out of smoking them. I went from a few a day to a few a year. I keep them around for others and I'm kinda tired of housing/maintaining so many and looking to start selling. I go through maybe 15-25/year, mostly giveaways to friends and my brother. Every once in a while I get in the mood so I'll keep a few, but housing a guestimated 1000+ sticks is a bit ridiculous. Most are 12-14 years old with a few newer ones. Is there an auction place where individuals can put their stuff up, like an ebay for cigars? That would let the market dictate the value of them. There's some stuff I believe to be kinda special like boxes of Angel 100s, pretty great cigars I gotta say, some other stuff that just doesn't exist any more, then lots of the usuals. Then there's the cooler full of Cubans, Padron Aniversarios, OpusX, etc. All together I have a tower, a mini fridge, and a big cooler I'm maintaining and I'm looking to thin it down substantially. I'm in So.Cal. if that makes a difference.

I was just notified by a veteran that I might get hazed for that post here in the main forum. I apologize if I screwed up and please forgive my ignorance.

I originally thought cigarbid was like ebay where individuals sell cigars, it wasn't 'till after registering that I figured out that it's not....or at least it appears not. I'm not good at interwebby stuff.

That aside, if anyone wants a stick or two of some old stuff just for fun I can accommodate a BOTL. I assume most people smoke theirs before they hit a decade in storage and back when I thought I was a cigar guy something like that would have been a special opportunity.

Not a fan of the Busa, I ride a BlackBird.

It's a bike thing, the Hyabusa dethroned the Bird as fastest production bike and in some circles it's almost like a Ford/Chevy thing of which is better. I don't get into the battle, we all know Ford is best just like the Bird is. Angel

It's encouraged to be a smartass here. So many newbs expect to be talked to here the same way their kindergarten teacher talked to them and when that doesn't happen lots of snowflakes melt.

Thanks man. At a glance it appeared to be the case, but I've been 'warned' on other forums about speaking my mind and didn't want to step on toes. Filter switch-off.

Thinking about cigars again and chatting with BsOTL makes me wanna light one up.

I think as long as they have been kept properly you should be able to trade them for some $'s. I encourage you to start with a few smaller deals to develop a good rep before you try to unload 1,000 smokes. Being a noob you need to gain some trust before people are just going to shell out money to you. I suggest maybe bombing a few vets with some smokes to get yourself established. Best of luck. That guy's stuff is all old; who'd want that ****?

Early on every time I'd grab a new to me smoke, most of which I'd gotten second hand with about 2 years on them, I'd try to find notes about them first. There were many stated to be harsh, overly spicy, or have some other nastiness. I'd light up and think WTF was that guy smokin?!? Then I learned more about resting & aging. When the Diesels first came out I tried one and loved it so I ordered some more. Tho I got a few pretty good cigars in my 'starter pack', that cigar was probably the one that really spurred me into cigar loving. Tho I kinda new better, when my order arrived I couldn't wait so I lit one hot off the truck, literally. The box was uncomfortably hot like the UPS guy had transported it in the engine compartment. I put everything away minus one Diesel for immediate consumption. It probably goes without saying that that was one **** cigar, it pained me to put it out. A couple weeks later they were good and just kept getting better. About a year in I decided to hang on to the last one for some real aging and when I went to get it several years later it was gone. I'm guessing one of my buddies grabbed it at some point and I didn't notice, but I still have some small hope that it's just hiding from me.

Another one that shocked me was the Gran Habano Vintage 2002. They're pretty, had good reviews, I found a decent price and bought 20 or 25. A few days later a friend was visiting and I grabbed two out for us, we admired the beauty and smell for a moment then lit up. They were horrible! Tasted like what a barn smells like or worse and I thought "damn that was a waste of money". Several weeks later I decided to try again before getting rid of them and they had become quite tasty. That same friend came over one day and I brought one out. He looked at me and said "if you wanted me to leave you coulda just said so". I convinced him to try it and it turned out to be a nomex stick (one you want to smoke to the nub and beyond).

Yeah, Gran Habano 2002 is a heavy barnyard cigar.

FYI when you talking about unloaded aged cigars be forewarned you better be upfront about the quality of storage. Temp and rh%...

I keep them in a commercial freezer, they should be relatively fresh.

I hear ya. I haven't been perfect with them, I have no temperature controls on the humis so they have had their swings. I believe humidity has been pretty good overall. Tho I'm sure the temp makes a difference, nobody has had anything objectionable to say about any of the oldies. Many assume that the 70-70 rule is ideal, but there's no way to really say what will make a particular cigar taste better to an individual, I sure don't know what'll happen at different temps/humidities outside of extremes of drying or molding. I had a moldy Cuban once and it was actually really tasty so who knows. Then again I'm an old moldy Cuban so I might be biased.

Edit: yes I was born there, no I have no special hook-ups for cigars.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you say you've been storing them in a freezer for several years.

Is the freezer plugged in?

Lets make this easy. You send me all of your cigars for "safe keeping", and I will send you 15 CC's. Sounds like a good trade to me.

The freezer was a joke to someone who stated something about their storage. Earlier in my post I stated that I have a tower humi, igloo, and mini fridge (not plugged in) storing them.

Someone else did too and I replied to him but not you. OLH is down, it shows "under construction" and nothing works.

It's not down, the home page isn't linked properly though. Wouldn't matter anyway, you'd likely be waiting 6-9 months before your registration was approved, the board owner just doesn't have the time to deal with it right now.

---

Just looked at it again, now I remember what the deal was with the home page. There is an error in the page code that was never corrected.

Click on the blue dot to the left of "Classifieds". That should take you to someplace you can register IIRC.

Yes, I haven't gotten around to inventorying, I'm also stuck thinking about how to price them, not sure what to do there which is why I was looking for an auction so that the consumers would set the price for me. I'll probably put some on Purotrader to see.

Thanks. Once I did I realized that I registered there years ago and had input much of my inventory. If I could only remember my user name & password. The email I was using back then is gone so that's no help.

Yea, he PMed me about CC. I thought that for a second but his refugee reference made be think it might be an acronym for the human refugees I'd never heard and I've heard plenty of funny names for them/us.
