since I've actually personally witnessed an illegal immigrant voting, you can be assured this study is bullsh*t...

Yeah.... ok

I have no idea what you're talking about... you posted a link to a study that said "the number of illegal immigrants voting was likely zero"... I was pointing out that that's an outright lie...

The article MACS posted referenced a study in 2010 or 2012 which identified self reported illegal immigrants self reporting that they voted. This was extrapolated to 5 to 7 million (I actually have no problem with the extrapolation, that's what statistics does).

The article I posted went back and checked those initial self reported voting illegal immigrants and found no evidence that any of them actually voted. It appears the self reporting was incorrect. So statistically, the number of illegal immigrants voting is zero. That is not the same as a true zero, it just means that within the margin if error; there were zero. That puts the real number (which will never be known) significantly closer to zero than "5 to 7 million"

I really didn't realize the study you posted was related to the one macs posted... i just opened the link, saw the statement about zero illegals voting, didn't bother reading on since i know that isnt true... but 5 to 7 million seems crazy high... not out of the realm of possibility though I suppose.... 5 to 7 million is like less than one percent of how many Mexicans there are...

People, wake up. As stated above statistical zero does not mean actual zero. If you call BS at least understand the math used.

That's why I said bad data opel....

Someone went back and checked the voting rolls for the people who claimed to have voted and didn't find any evidence they actually did. That puts the data in real question... but it doesn't seem to stop some people from using it and posting more stats based on it.

But mention climate change and they suddenly are very interested in whether the underlying data is reliable.

Dammit... wrong link.
The one I posted showed the statistical issue with it and essentially turned the number to zero because of that (interesting read... deals with how large categories impact associated smaller categories). Let me find the other one

Shaffener found 1 of the 85 had voted. 1..
And given the statistics behind the study this individual is likely a citizen.

Of course accurate data doesn't matter. The same idiots will keep dredging up that data and re-polishing it and claiming millions of illegals voted... the idiot president will keep tweeting about it and our nation will get dumber and less significant on the world stage.

At this point the best long term outcome we should expect for our country is to be nuked by North korea.

You do get to vote.

But if you vote that it's preferable for the country to trundle onward with an increasing lack of understanding of data and such a shallow view of facts that studies regurgitating disproven data can impact your view of the world, then your vote is thrown out.

Reading sarcasm was never your strong suit.

You were gone for a bit, Vic.
Upon your return, you're as caustic as ever, but your humor has dwindled. As in "you don't have any".

Everything OK?

There is still a significant percentage, bigly larger than a statistical zero, of Americans who believe that Obama is a muslim foreigner; Hillary sold high grade uranium to the Russians; Hillary gave classified info to the bad guys; and the pizzagate child sex-ring operated by the Clinton campaign are all true...

...and that the Trump University is a legitimate institution of higher learning; and that the Trump Foundation advances many charitable organizations that do great work for huge numbers of disadvantaged people...

Victor, statistically speaking there should be a zero percent chance North Korea could hit the USA with a nuke, yes? This would only be factoring in observable tests and launches. Then you could also factor in the probability that we can hack their launches. But shouldn't there be an uncertainty factor that it may be theoretically possible that they could hit us. Just a thought.

Trump is a symptom of a much larger issue. His election and the ongoing support he receives from people who jump with glee at every dumb thing he does suggests the nation is not going to get better. He will be elected for a second term. He has already lowered the bar. Our next president (d or r) will need to match his level of reality tv idiocity to get the votes necessary to win.

As we continue to elect even bigger idiots (I know it's hard to imagine a bigger idiot than Trump... but we thought the same thing about GWB) we will continue to lose any respect from 1st world nations. We are already showing the world that our nation isn't the leader in a number of things any longer ... other than being the leader in "me first" they recognize it and have made statements regarding that.

Meanwhile idiots continue to gleefully harp on Obama or Clinton thinking pointing out faults of the past presidents or candidates (imagined or real) has any impact on the multiple fronts our nation is currently failing at.

And all this because people thought an idiot swindler was going to give them the 1950s jobs back that don't even exist and kick all the brownish people out who they're sure took their nonexistent jobs. He's accomplished none of those lies, all he does is tweet a claim to success, which then gets rolled back 2 weeks later. But no one has the attention span to notice. And psychology being what it is, pointing out that they made a bad decision only tends to entrench people further in their decision (just me pointing this out probably makes you want to fellate Trump even more than when you started reading it).

So no. I'm not filled with a lot of hope for the future success of our country. That's fine. He's doing great things for me. I heard today that the Republican plan is going to let the pharma companies really screw people over on pricing... that's good for my paycheck. I don't particularly care about anyone who might need to buy the drugs. I don't have kids so the country will serve me just fine for the short term that it matters.

But wow has this past 100 days been a real eye opener on where I really need to set my level of expectation for people. I knew that there were a lot of scared and/or easily manipulated people out there ... but I underestimated things a lot.
