I don't recall when he said it, nor the context.

But he's not far from the truth according to my nephew who recently returned after living there 5 years.

I don't see how that matters, or the context. I think it is an awkward moment for him because he did say it.

No, it isn't Drafter, he said it. That is the only relevant fact. He can't walk it back.

Trump was harshly critical of NATO as a candidate, declaring the military alliance 'obsolete.'
He has also criticized member countries for not following NATO guidelines to spend at least 2 percent of their gross domestic product on defense.
The president has been similarly critical of Brussels, the Belgian capital that is home to both the NATO and European Union headquarters. After the city's recent struggles with terrorism, Trump called Brussels a 'hellhole.'
Brussels is Trump's fourth stop on his maiden overseas tour. His fifth and final stop will be Sicily, where he'll meet with the leaders of the Group of 7 wealthy nations.
Nato is rolling out the red carpet for Trump in Brussels.

It's only an issue because you want it to be... The Brusselians don't even care... Not talking

He was referencing their situation with Muslim immigrants...

(SMDHA)

If I don't know the context, I generally won't start a thread about it. YMMV

agreed...not that I like that context either, but it is different than one would think without knowing the reference.

It's Belgium.
He can make it a Beer Summit.
I heard those can "walk back" stupid comments. Or comments acting stupidly. Or something like that...

In the big picture this means nothing, but there have been so many small faux pas that America is getting a black eye.

Shortly after Trump made this statement did something not happen in Brussels? Small gaff? He was correct in his own context.

So it's not just me?

I grew up having never eaten brussel sprouts.
A few years back I had them at a local BBQ joint.
Friggin awesome.
But the gas starts even before I'm finished eating.
Worse than beans.
But so worth it.
