Arrested for DUI in Jupiter Florida.

I don't understand the need to drive drunk when you're a gazillionaire. You can afford a cab, a limo, uber... hell a damn tow truck to take your car home.

I think the guy has gone off the deep end.

Ungodly rich or hopelessly poor, drunk people across the board aren't typically known for making good decisions.

That's an easy excuse, but even drunk people know when they're doing wrong.

When I read he was arrested for DUI while "sleeping in a stopped car" I prepared for OUTRAGE. This phenomenon of arresting people who pull over is bullsh1t in my opinion. They did the right thing. You want to encourage them to keep going?

However, reading the report, it appears ol' Tiger fell asleep in the middle of the roadway, car running, blinker still on. OUTRAGE averted.

Yeah, read on ESPN he blew 0.00. However, DUI doesn't necessarily have to be booze. It can be drugs as well, prescription or not.

Either way, it's unfortunate.

for all we know he could have been out of his mind on heroin and benzos
sounds like he was, at the very least, significantly altered

would be interesting to see the dash/body cam footage

One day, early in his career, Tiger was driving to a tournament down south.
He passed a very nice looking golf course and seeing as he was ahead of schedule, he decided to stop and get a quick round in to limber up before the tournament.
When he goes into the clubhouse, the man behind the counter gives him an incredulous look and says,
"And whatta YOU want?"

Tiger says, "I'd like to play a round of golf."

The man replies, with a smirk on his face,
" We don't allow YOUR KIND to play here. This is a very exclusive club.
There is a public course about a '3 wood' down the road. You go play there
!"

Tiger replies, "Sir . . . Do you know who I am ?"

The man says, "I ain't got a fuggin' clue, dude."

"I'M TIGER WOODS", he replies.

The man says, "Okay . . . so it's a 5 iron !"

local news is reporting .000 and that he was cooperative with police. He has a shred of a defense so this will probably not get him 6 mos in jail as the charge will be downgraded and he'll plead no contest. If it truly was a sudden, unexpected reaction to drugs as claimed and the state believes this to be true (highly unlikely), he walks...

Now reports are saying his car was damaged (2 flats, and banged up bumpers).

I'm certain he will get zero jail time. Fines, and maybe court-ordered rehab?

But, he hasn't said he has a drug problem. He says he was on Vicodin and three other drugs (he hasn't reported what they are). If it is only self-damaged from running off the road, community service is in the picture. Dash camera recording could be very helpful as to what truly occurred...

Bzzzzt. Try again. They did the right thing AFTER doing the wrong thing. They were DUI until they pulled over.

That's probably some other charge.

We had a guy at work once get a drunk in public for sleeping it off in his car in the parking lot.

So? Again, what is the other option? Encourage them to keep driving, in the hopes they can make it to safety?

There is no option for driving impaired other than not driving.

If you cannot control your drinking, don't dive to get a drink. If drinking requires transportation and you cannot afford a cab, Uber or someone to drive you, you don't get to drink.

Plan your transportation or lodging before you drink? Especially if you know you'll be indulging.

It really isn't that difficult.

What about the guy who goes to see a band play at the local Holiday Inn Lodge......when leaving decides he had to much to drink, so he climbs into the back seat to sleep it off, in the parking lot. Before going to sleep he puts keys in ignition so he won't lose them, and to listen to the radio. Police show up for some reason, I think someone called them, and he is arrested for DUI because the keys were in the ignition.
I know, many wrongs here.........He couldn't afford a room, shouldn't have put keys in ignition, etc.
But he was doing the right thing.......wasn't driving drunk.......he wasn't even in the front seat and the vehicle wasn't running........pretty expensive hit for doing the right thing...........next time maybe he figures he'll try to get home.....doing the right thing cost him just as much as if he had gotten caught driving home

Re: 48

Even a sh*tty lawyer would get those charges dismissed. Some cops get a little overzealous, or decide to err on the side of caution. An arrest should not be made unless all the elements of the crime have been met. In the case you present... too many holes.

However... lets say the cop finds the guy like that. The report is in the system, because he's gonna run the plate and the name for wants/warrants. If the guy decides to drive away 5 minutes after the cop leaves, and he wrecks and kills someone, people are gonna want to know why he was not arrested.

In such instances, what is usually done is the guy gets transported to the jail to sober up, but he gets "849'ed", which means there are no charges, and he will be released as soon as medical staff deems he is sober.

No citation, no charges... and nobody gets hurt.
