He was most certainly impaired.

Plan your transportation or lodging before you drink? Especially if you know you'll be indulging.

It really isn't that difficult.

Do you suffer from cognitive impairment? We are not talking about a perfect world. We are talking about someone who finds themselves behind the wheel, drunk. Should they keep driving or pull over?

Perhaps this will help with your comprehension:

___ Yes they should keep driving

___ No they should pull over

There are the two choices. Please check one box. Do you think you will have difficulty with this simple analysis?

Sure. Or -- much more common by a factor of 1000 -- the guy who climbs behind the wheel hammered, goes a little ways, then suddenly realizes "Oh sh1t I'm way bombed."

I know that if one lives in a basement it's difficult to imagine that happening, but trust me, in the real world it's not what you would call "rare."

Not asking for sympathy in these circumstances, I'm asking: What policy best supports public safety?

Because if you say "We'll arrest you for DUI even though you pulled over and tried to sleep it off," then we are going to encourage the drunks to keep driving and try to make it home. That strikes me as a totally backwards policy.

Fine, but this isn't about moralizing or getting on our high horse. It's going to happen. A lot. Period.

The question is: What should the policy be in response? Charge them with DUI whether they pull over or not? What outcomes does that policy promote?

I say if they're behind the wheel passed out charge them... they knew when they got there they were taking a chance... if you've had more than three beers you should know there's a chance of getting busted... if you want to roll the dice go for it... I have many many times... but I got older and a little smarter... now I just don't do it and I don't have to worry about a thing... Mellow

I guess we will just have to disagree. To me, you are encouraging them to "roll the dice" in your words, even more, by trying to keep going and get home. More deaths will result from that.

I do understand your position however.

Tiger Woods was driving under the influence of five prescription drugs when Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel and arrested him in May, a newly released toxicology report shows.

Woods had Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in his system, according to the results made public Monday now that the criminal investigation into Woods’ case is no longer active.

The 14-time major championship winner pleaded guilty to reckless driving last Wednesday, after not appearing himself in court, and will enter a diversion program for first-time DUI offenders with the opportunity to clear his record upon completion.

Woods, 41, told officers he had an “unexpected reaction” to Vicodin and Xanax — the prescribed medication he was taking to help ease the pain from his fourth back surgery in April — at the time of his arrest in the early morning of May 29.

A month after checking into a clinic to get “professional help” for his overreliance on painkillers, the father of two revealed he had completed treatment.

DUI is a misdemeanor. One doesn't go to jail for a single DUI.

You get fined, you go to classes, you do community service. Where did he 'beat the system' or buy anyone off?

He would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for them meddling SSG agents.

They weren't secret agents.

Remember, Jonesey was a secret agent man.

I got it....

Although Col Flagg is good too. Probably better, really.
