So...I had my physical for work yesterday and needless to say, the biggest concern is my weight. I was at 219 just a few months ago and now I am back up to about 245. My doctor is pushing to do something, especially since I am only 5'7". I need to lose a good 70-80 lbs to be at a healthy weight for my height.

I keep telling myself that I will get back on the wagon to losing weight, but it isn't coming very easy for me. There are so many opinions and options out there for eating habits and exercise. My excuse is how little time I have to do anything about it because of my 4 little ones. I need to get past that excuse and actually do something about it.

First, any suggestions on exercises? I have tried the videos like Insanity and T25, but all they do is annoy me. I just don't think that will work for me. The only thing I have found that I at least somewhat like doing is walking/running, but I can't seem to get off the couch to do it. I either have to get up earlier to work out (which doesn't work well since I already get up pretty early for work and I hate morning workouts because I am exhausted the rest of the day) or I have to work out after the kids go to bed, around 8pm. The evening option is the best option right now.

Second, my meals are pretty good, but I know I need to work on cutting out some of the carbs. My biggest problem is the snacking around meals that I do. Does anyone have suggestions on healthy snacks? I know that I need to cut out snacks, but if I can't resist, I want to find something healthy that I actually like to some degree.

Is there such a thing as an actually healthy granola/protein bar?

I am leaving next week for my Canada fishing trip, and I need to force myself to not eat like crap and have healthy snacks to take on the boat with me and for the downtime we always have.

I have tried almonds and carrots, but those get boring so quickly.

Third, I have been really struggling with quitting my chewing habit. I quit for about 8 days and then started back up for God only knows what reason. I have done everything that the "experts" say to do to help, but my nicotine addiction seems to get the best of me. Even looking at the pictures of people with mouth cancer and other oral issues doesn't seem to do the trick. Any further help on this is appreciated.

To close, I know I need to change my lifestyle big time in order to get healthy and do my best to be here for the long haul for my kids, wife, family and friends. I just need to find it in myself to do something about it, but I am struggling to get off the ground. Any POSITIVE thoughts/comments welcome.

And just because I know I will get this from a few of you guys....I know I need to get off my fat, lazy butt and do something about it.

Thanks!

Strength training (easier with personal trainer). Quickest way to drop weight.

Protein, protein, protein... and vegies.

Eat smaller meals more often (helps avoid snacking).

Almonds and carrots are good, suck it up. Mix it up with mixed nuts.

chew... invest in a quality ecig. Mix your own juice to save money.

Get to the gym and get pumpin lard ass!

the problem with threads like these is you're going to feel like you accomplished something when you didn't.... stop asking people on a cigar forum how to get healthy... nothing you read here will be of any help to you... including this... google more, eat less...

Thanks! Any thoughts on what kind of strength training (since that is a pretty broad description)?

Anything helps at this point. I try google and get billions of opinions...figure I could ask here to see if anyone has done anything that worked for them (since I consider all you douches to be friends). Getting opinions on here won't hurt anything and it isn't going to make me feel like I accomplished anything. I know I have to actually do it myself.

Well, you missed the other part about seeking a personal trainer. I'm not one, so my advice won't be that great. I can tell you the basics of what the one I hired several years ago told me.

day 1: upper back/biceps

day 2: Legs/lower back

day 3: Chest/Shoulders/triceps

Most excercises: 20 reps warmup, 15, 10-12, 5-8, 4-6

Triceps/Legs: Stick with high reps on every set.

You can do abs every day.

Most your gains (losses) are going to come from eating better though.

Thanks again, I appreciate it. Just wasn't sure what exactly you meant by strength training (it is obvious now).

The big thing that I am interested in is healthy snack ideas, since snacking is my biggest problem in regards to my weight. This thread was originally going to be about healthy snack ideas only, but figured I would broaden it to the whole scope if things.

So what do you currently consider a snack?

Its all diet
Count every calorie you put in your body
Take in 1500 calories per day and a gallon of water
have one cheat day per week
It will melt off guaranteed

shut off cbid, and probably twelve other forums, and I believe you will have time to move your azz around enough to sweat off some fat.

and toughen up for Cripe's sake. You have a family. feel like dying young?

shut this thing off now. Come back in 30 pounds, we'll be just fine.

forget calories ... not all of them are created equal ... CARBS are the calories that count ... period ... calories from sources such as meat and vegetables are all OK ...

Exercise will increase your metabolism ... you will burn calories far more efficiently ... exercise that focuses on your core is best ...

Hank, everyone goes through tough times during their life. It's time you get on with living. Change you mindset. Choose to win. When life knocks you down get up.

Change your mindset. I will loose weight in a healthy manner. There are many diets. You need to change your eating habits. Eat unprocessed foods. Drink water. Practice portion control. Limit you calories per day. Just do it.

Change your mindset. I will exercise every day. There are many forms of exercise. You need to change your exercise habits. It does not matter what the exercise is. Doing it daily matters.

Change your mindset. I will gain mental health. There are numerous ways to do this. Doing it matters.

Hankie, glad to see you got rid of the King icon, i thought it was, well glad its gone.

You may recall I too was leaning towards chemicals to ally my depression, seemed you dropped them all together and have been on a binge again to random post as much as one can in a day.

That being said I have found solace at the gym. I go five times a week and go to two to three classes.

Is all about the core they tell me and build muscle, my goal is not to lose weight per say but to get rid of the pregnant looking belly i have.

Ive been going for five months now, ive lost some of my love handles, i drink a lot more water and I want to bang a lot of the girls at the gym-----which is reason enough to keep working out. there is one.....

So from a FOG that has realized what I have been missing out on, get to the effing gym!!!!!!!!!!! I've got guns, love handles are going away and I have never felt better---i am 63 in august, start now!!!

Portion control, ask trainers about which carbs, drink more water, make it a mix of cardio and strength, even some yoga and you will see a difference.

As to canada, fu^k man, all bets are off eat fish and drink Labatts, no calories in canada.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the thoughts/advice. A huge part is making the actual decision to do something about all of this and then not giving up, I know that. I need to stop making excuses, get off my butt and just do it.

My current snacks consist of anything I can find in the cupboard or buying some sort of candy/pop tart at our work cafe. Other snacks have been ice cream, granola bars, fruit snacks, pudding, random bowls of cereal, etc.

So any other healthy ideas are welcome.

People have been pretty helpful/encouraging so far. That is all I was looking for. Sorry to take up your precious board space for something that actually matters (at least to me), rather than filling it with more worthless drivel like most of the threads on here. If you don't want to see/read it, feel free to scroll past the thread rather than clicking on it and complaining.

In your defense spanky... and for what it's worth... even when you do post something meaningful (to you), every thread you start reads like worthless drivel.

I know, I am the red headed step child of this forum. If anyone else posted the same things I do, nobody would give it a second thought. I just have to accept and live with my role here...I will get over it.

Hank, most people on here come to laugh, argue, talk cigars, and in general have a good time. Most people here post in a different manner than you do. This is a cigar forum. Not a self help forum. Read ewoks post. There is good natured laughter, him included. I doubt anyone here expects you to change, nor do they expect others responses to you to change.

Any and generally all lose weight quickly programs will not work in the long run. I would start with realistic and easy exercises. Start by walking 5 miles every day; rain or shine. Then add in some weight lifting and cardio. As you start to gain muscle mass and lose some weight you can increase your level and intensity of exercise. Start with realistic goals and go slow to avoid injury and make long term positive changes. I think anyone is setting themselves up to fail if they try to lose 40#'s in a month. It's just not sustainable.

I'm not a doctor or physical trainer but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. fog

Frank, you are like a genius!

Hank, step away from the keyboard and spit out that chit you got in your mouth. Sometimes you gotta suck it up and eat your veggies and healthy snacks..........IF IT TASTES GOOD, SPIT IT OUT!!!!!! Walk, you got 4 kids, take them outside and run and throw a ball around, play hide and seek with them.
There are loads of healthy snacks and protein shakes.......ask your Dr. for some ideas.
Google healthy eating, diets, whatever.........do something productive with your computer instead of coming here and getting all butthurt and calling people cigar snobs and communists. Join Planet Fitness or the YMCA
Why do you need to come here for that kind of advice? Your wife can't answer some of these questions for you?

Don't you realize everyone here has their own life and their own issues to deal with? I hate to make decisions myself, but I have never come to c-bid and asked what color socks I should wear today,if any, or should I brush my teeth in a circular motion or back and forth? Damn, grow a pair and control your own life. Decide what you want and need and don't come here and ask us how you should live your life...............Damn!!!horse Frying pan Brick wall

The kids are 5,4,2,2. Playing with them doesn't take much energy. And they get plenty of food...considering how much gets thrown away after we beg them to eat for an hour every meal.

Here's an idea: Stop trying to fix yourself by putting things in yourself. You will never fill that emptiness inside of you with food, chew, cigars or attention in these forums. I suspect you'd benefit from some inside work to understand what that metaphorical hunger is that you haven't been able to satisfy. I'm not saying this to be an @ss. I'm speaking from experience. There is another side to this. You can get there.

We smoke cigars. You think we care about healthy living?

On the contrary, your quite on the portly side.

Quit eating so dammmuch'

Your spending a little to much time at the dinner table. And ifnt' ya arnt' well... then you jest ain't eaten' enuff leafy greens, and drinking water.
have an egg for breakfast. Or a handful of nuts and jerky.
And pound water all day till supper. Then eat what I want.
But you gotta eat enough rabbit food, it'll hold a turd better.

One meal a day is the way to go.
