Normal for me is $65 or so when not running the AC. It went to $85, then $151. Heck, it may be over $200, but I have a small house. 1400 sq ft Plus I set it to 78 during the day and 75 from 9pm to 5am.

My first month back, just over $200. My lease says I must keep it at 78° or lower. I never paid $100 in Japan...

we get under $100/month in the winter... but summer months, especially when the temp doesn't dip below 80 at night, our ac runs and runs and runs (I think it was 95 here at 9am yesterday)... we set it to 78 during the day but it rarely gets that low...

that's what we get for buying a house that was built in the 60's... we're looking into the dual pane thing this next year... should bring it down a chunk...

Japan was getting about 30% of their power from nuclear plants before Fukushima. Now they import over 80% of their power from coal, natural gas, and oil. I'm sure that's better for the environment than nuclear reactors... which have zero emissions, but have to be disposed of after 20-25 years.

My son's lease agreement had something similar about keeping the thermostat in a certain temp range all year. They also want them to change the air filter every month in the HVAC system. He's renting a house in IL.

....so... may be making a few changes soon.

The woman wants to leave SF... she's hated it on the west coast within about a year of getting here, but only put up with it so I could be close to my mom.

Of course, that patience ended about 24 hours after her death, and the question of when we're leaving SF and where we're going popped up right away.

I've been working with a friend who's chinese company was bought and folded into a larger company out in Missouri... he wants me to go work for the division he's in, but his thoughts on what I would do are pretty vague.... we've been working it out a little... discussing the sort of products they are developing and how I could get involved, but nothing specific other than he wants me to go over there. Much of what I would do would be outside of the industry knowledge I've been developing for years.

Then today, an old coworker on the east coast just called and offered me his job. Flat out it's mine if I want it. He's taking his boss's job and he gets to hire his replacement.... same company I used to work for as a contractor 4 years ago, they'll offer me a 2 year contract as a contractor or a full time position, my choice.

But then... the contract work I've been doing in SF just started getting interesting. We picked up a small company in the city here, who probably won't sustain me long but is a nice change of pace... and I managed to wedge my way into a project with an extraordinarily large company because their client in the bay area actually had them stop using two other guys in favor of me. Hugely satisfying to know they liked my work so much more, but also really good for the contracting company, because that puts us on a short list for any GxP work their project manager is going to be doing in the bay area. Horribly boring work, but the client doesn't bat an eye at pretty large purchase orders ....

I get about 1 month to decide at most.... coincidentally, it all hits when my lease expires... it'd be nice to stop paying 4k/mo.

I like cali... love West coast weather... cost of living is high but that can be dealt with by working more. But my close friends are in DC. And ultimately, no one in our household cares where I want to live anyway...

Cell service is poor here.

Kids got a fever. Wife fell while hiking and hurt her ankle.

Leaving tomorrow. Not sure if we're going to racetrack or just straight home. The cheapo tires I had put on the rear are terrible. Wagging my tail without a trailer. Was white knuckle scary towing on them here.

Probably just gonna head home on back roads. But buddy bringing a Lotus Seven and I can have seat time at racetrack.

We'll see how everyone feeling tomorrow.

Scariest interstate trailer towing - had too much weight on the rear of trailer with a lot of surface area over tongue....... didn't notice until i hit 60 mph when the rear SUV wheels lifted completely off the ground ..... coasted till i gained control....... drove slow on back roads rest of way.

Victor, leaving SF would be easy I think.. leaving the west coast would be tough.. but there's that money making thing we gotta do... I've thought about going back to Oregon alot but the wife's family is here and stuff.. and some of mine.. and when the time comes when we can get away I'll prolly end up in Florida... anyways, if you have a choice go where you want to be.. money isn't everything.. the girlfriend will follow.. So many sad feels.

The curiosity rover on mars sings itself happy birthday every August 5.

It's a robot but it's the most isolated being in our known universe. Singing happy birthday to itself, after it's useful life is over, and has essentially been abandoned on an other planet

13 Yellowtail, and 6 Bonito. We could have kept catching fish, but we were tired of reeling them in.

So... we turned the tables on Mexico, and we were the illegal aliens down there today. I didn't bring my passport or permit, and my friend and his son don't even have one. Take that Mexico.

I would have stayed, but we still had the drive home and all the clean up duties.

That's the issue with fishing the ocean. Salt water will rot your gear if you don't clean it all well at the end.

Nice haul MACS!!!

Hope you choose what is best for yourself, victor...everything else will work out...how serious are you and the girlfriend?

Our paid-for solar system is working great. We have a $600+ credit this fiscal year, and will prolly not exhaust the balance by the end of the year. During the summer, so far, we've generated enough to compensate for our usage. We keep AC at 78 during the day, 80 at night, or open the windows and turn off the AC if temps dip below 75-78 at night. The pool problem will put a dent in the electricity surplus, since we've had to run the filter 12 hours/day to correct an algae bloom...

...maybe we should do a wellness check at opel's...he hasn't been back since he said he was gonna eat some banana bread...

Got up early and went and got a $10 padron 1926 from my Native American friends.... now I'm watching Paw Patrol with my daughter... lazy day....

Al, I'm really considering solar but have no idea where to even look... so many companies, so many horror stories...

Never did eat that banana bread... not sure benadryl would actually help with oral allergy syndrome....

Getting ready to bake some banana bread and cookies and brownies for my mom to take my grandma down in Pasadena... she lost a ton of weight from a recent stomach illness so I'm gonna get her fattened back up...
