In an effort to stop a species of killer fish from infiltrating the Great Lakes, Michigan's governor on Tuesday launched the "Invasive Carp Challenge," the state's latest response to the aggressive invaders.
Gov. Rick Snyder created the challenge to tap into the "creative minds of people" worldwide in solving the impending invasive carp -- also known as Asian carp -- crisis.

"Invasive carp pose a serious and growing threat to the economy and ecology of our Great Lakes," Snyder said in a statement Tuesday. "The Invasive Carp Challenge will tap into the creativity and expertise of the entrepreneurial community to find the best ways to protect Michigan’s most prized natural resource."

The state is specifically looking to barricade silver and bighead carp, two Asian carp species, from entering the Great Lakes. The people with the best solutions will receive up to a $700,000 reward split among them.

Written proposals will be accepted through Oct. 31.

And once the Asian Carp are eradicated, maybe the next target group should be the radical Muslims in Dearborn .

I've recenty started following a few bow fishermen on youtube who target primarily carp and gar... it'd be interesting to see the state start encouraging that sport...

Seems like there was an effort to eradicate Illinois Carps a while back...

Colorado is trying to controlled the non native pike in some of our lakes. They put a 20 dollar bounty per fish caught. We will see how that works.

Invasive Carp is just a hoax made up to sell fishing bate and steal government funding.
We all know that marine biologists can't be trusted - they are scientist, ya' know.

I suspect the carps are already in the great lakes, they just haven't been found and/or reported yet.

A few weeks ago, they found one a couple miles up the Calumet river, which is well past the electric barrier that's supposed to keep them form migrating any further.

There are commercial fishermen that haul out thousands of pounds of them every year now. There's also a big Redneck fishing tournament in Bath, IL every year.

People get seriously hurt from them flying invasive bastards. I've read stories about broken arms and concussions from people being hit by them.
