Need to re-caulk my center console and bait tank. They used silicone sealant, and it's coming undone. Called the boat dealer and he said it'd only take him 20 minutes to replace it for me, but it'd cost me more in gas to bring him the boat than to do it myself.

I'm gonna use 3M marine sealant, instead of the silicone.

Dealing with insurance with my truck for the blowout damage has been a pain.

Called to report, they told me I could go to their partner shop, or my own choice. Told them I would be bringing it to a dealer shop. (will be worked on by friends and family there, didn't tell them that)

They told me to get an estimate, fax it in, and call them back when I had an appointment to drop it off so they could send out adjuster and schedule delivery of rental car.

Made appointment today at the dealer for the end of the month. Called insurance and they told me I did it wrong, and need to bring it to their partner shop to get the estimate, and then I could take THAT estimate to the shop of my choice and see if they'll do it for the agreed price. Also told me if I don't use their partner shop I need to arrange my own rental car and then submit for reimbursement.

Their partner shop is in a bad part of a rough town... Not happy with this.

Progressive or State Farm?

Both have reputations for that type of thing, although you could have a bad experience anywhere.

Sitting at the Geico partner shop for estimate.

The adjuster said the damage doesn't add up from a blowout, said some of it had to be prior.

Good thing I have tons of pictures of the fender area from when I did brakes and suspension. And tons more immediately after the blowout.

So, Geico partner shop quote was nearly $1K HIGHER than the dealer quote and they still pushed for me to get it done at their partner shop.

They listed the same OEM GM part numbers as the dealer quote, but with a 15% markup

They want to replace the entire exhaust system cat back because the tip was smashed and I cut it off to keep the exhaust flowing. I suggested a weld-on exhaust tip but they want to replace the whole thing.

So, after all that hassle, and arguing that it was indeed a tire blowout that caused the damage (I really don't see how the damage could be done any other way) they approved me getting it fixed at the dealer instead of their shop.

So after I get back from towing back and forth to Atlanta, I'll be dropping it off and beating the crap out of a rental car for a week.
