2K isn't that much for a bike

Actually, it is.

And don't get your spandex in a knot. I know bikes can easily fetch more than that.
But to say it isn't that much?

The worst golfers I know have the most expensive clubs.
Anyone can justify a cost if they want to.
Doesn't mean it "isn't that much".

Meh. Lots of generalizations there but it's pretty easy to go over 2k on a bike. And while some of The worst golfer do you know may use the most expensive clubs some of the best golfers in the world do as well

All that aside particularly for a millionaire a 2k bike isn't that big a deal I'm no millionaire and I've got a few I just don't think that expensive of a bakers a big deal but it's all relative that said you and Mr. Jones are having a symbiotic moment Who am I to get in the way

I hate voice recognition Not going to fix it though it's funnier this way

I wouldn't buy a road bike under a grand anyway I look at it and two grand is about the right spot to start

5k is a lot of money. 5k is not a lot to spend on a car.

It depends what you want it to do.

My commuter bike back in 2006 was 1.5k... and that didn't even have disc brakes.

No doubt a good bike won't make a sloth a good rider. But it will make similar folks appreciably better.

On my good road bike I could coast about as fast as some could grind.

Tech is tech. Upgrading to a 1k set of wheels bought me a couple mph. Best bike purchase ever.

I had a neighbor a few years ago who raced. He had bike frames that cost over 5k.

But tailgater's point is still valid. To most people, 2k for a bicycle is excessive.

Can't keep that bike in Boston, not parked where it is visible.
The welfare rats will steal it from you in no time.

I had about a 3K bike I never locked up. The trick was to purposely uglify the frame (had a buddy with a body shop "weather" it with ugly paint) and take the seat and a wheel inside with you. Never got touched.

one of my favorite bikes.

TW always gets bent regarding bikes.

For the vast majority of Americans, a bicycle is an affordable investment. For leisure or for transportation or for sport.

$2000 is WAY more than most should spend.

$2000 is also much too low for serious enthusiasts and for those who wish to be snobs. Not mutually exclusive, by the way.

If TW wants to spend over $2k, that's his business.
But think how much he would spend if it included a seat?

Actually I assume they were not their own bikes and were rented... I dunno. Never really went to the story. If that is the case, I would EXPECT that level of bike or better.

That said, it's been awhile since I looked but for most 2K would be a bit high for a roadbike but I would beware of anything under 1k 1.2 to 1.5 is about the sweet spot... or used to be.

Mountain bikes were always cheaper but I think that may have changed somewhat.

2K is certainly not excessive

meh... buy what you want and don't judge others for buying what they want.

If they own them... then perhaps the question should be why does tail think that the former president, the former first lady....oprah ... and Bruce Springsteen owning an expensive bike is craaaazzzzy talk.

... i mean... its a bike. Not a car. The difference between a cheap one and an expensive one is not that much money.

Bit I understand. Tail doesn't smoke anything but dog rockets because 25$ is a lot of money to light on fire. But 5$ is ok to light on fire.

... I think the problem is that people who regularly burn 20$ cigars and collect huge numbers of them are complaining about someone paying 2k for a bike that can be reused...

I have an eight year old $600 comfort/hybrid 21 speed bike. It is heavy and slow, and on smooth bike paths, I've been passed by kids on beach cruisers....but it is rugged as hell and can take some dirt trails and other uneven terrain...best I've done on long rides (35-40 miles) is average 12 mph.

I considered getting a pure road bike and looked at some that were 10-15 lbs lighter than my bike. Got about 15-16mph on a test ride with a loaner, but didn't want to pay $1.2 to $2 K for a bike, then spend money on riding clothes (looked like a seal - harbor, not Navy - when I put on some tights), clipless pedals and riding shoes, aero helmet, etc....

so for me at least, $2 K is too much for a bike...and my income is less now, on retirement, then it was when I was shopping for a faster bike...

That's a great example.

Would anyone here suggest that $25 wasn't a lot for a cigar?

Because it is.

Doesn't mean it's not worth it.

If it's worth it then it isn't a lot.

A lot for... is a statement which incorporates the quality of the good received following the for.

10$ is a lot for a white owl
10$ is a lot for a Cohiba.

One of those statements makes sense.

what do you consider a mid price.... I'd say 7-10 bucks. So a $15 wouldn't kill me. 25 would be more than I would pay because I know I can do as good for much less. That said it's only $10 more so I might do it given the occasion or circumstance.

Mid price to me for a road bike is 1000-1500 it's all relative. I'd never suggest anyone go under a G on a roadbike unless it's used or stolen 2K wouldn't kill me because I would be aware of what it gives me. It would give me tangible benefits.

The cigar would be gone after one use. My investment in the bike wouldn't. By paying more I have 15+ year old bikes that are still relevant. Had I gone sub 1G or even 1.5 I would not.

I just spent $100 for a bottle of glenmorangie 18 so wtf do I know anyway? buy what you want, why judge others if they do too?

For infrequent smokers, $25 is a lot for one cigar.

For occasional bikers, $2k is a lot.

My bet is Tom Hanks is closer to a casual bicyclist than to a tour-du-france contender.

But $25 might be easier on an infrequent smoker than an every day smoker. I smoke less now which makes paying more more palatable.

Drafter's idea of a "golf cart" is a little different than everyone else's. Here is a picture of Drafter on his "golf cart"
