TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Tampa has fired a visiting assistant professor who suggested in a tweet that Hurricane Harvey's destruction is "instant karma" for Texas because it voted Republican.

Sociology professor Kenneth L. Storey posted the tweet and two responses on Sunday before removing the entire thread and his profile photo, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The original post, captured by conservative websites before it was removed, read, "I dont believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesnt care about them."

University spokesman Eric Cardenas said in a statement Tuesday that Storey was fired after the school weathered an outpouring of online outrage over the comments.

Storey issued an apology via Twitter on Monday, saying: "I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly."

I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly

— Ken Storey (@klstorey) August 28, 2017

"As Floridians, we are well aware of the destruction and suffering associated with tropical weather. Our thoughts and prayers are with all impacted by Hurricane Harvey," the university said.

Guess Ken Storey now has first hand knowledge of the true meaning of "karma."

What a fool. Texas does not deserve to suffer for Ted Cruz and his hypocracy in persuit of personal gain. He may be a charlaton with zero integrity and a sniveling twit but he is smooth and does understand how to exploit good people. They shouldn't be punished for that.

We need to help the good folks of Texas despite the likes of Cruz. He is not a reflection of them. As a matter of fact I'm pretty convinced he doesn't have a reflection.

Ted and all other Texas GOP will vote for federal aid...this time.
as they should, and should have done in the past.

Most are fortunate enough to live entire lives without ever even seeing such devastation live, and the FL guy is a moron.

the professor is a complete idiot not worthy of much more time. They are largely irrelevant and won't or can't have much impact on anything. I'm glad they were fired and rightfully so.

Cruz is still relevant and will have impact. That's why I focus on him more. He was wrong after sandy (despite his lies to spin it differently) and was using it for personal political gain.

I am hopeful our politicians do not hold his actions against Texas. Texas deserves all the help we can give them.

While I was aiming for humor, which I'm sure you caught, my heart goes out to Texas. I'm working on ways to help them professionally as we speak.

You keep referring to him as they, you must be practicing for California so you don't accidentally get someones gender wrong and get thrown in jail due to their recent assault on the first amendment.

Not anymore. He was rightfully fired and I am glad he was. No one should take him seriously. The same goes for cruz, but he is still employed and people do take him seriously.

Make no mistake though. This dude is a dumb ass.

Reminds me of a 'goat lover' calling the US the great satin that his god would strike down right before another earthquake knocks down half the buildings in another s'hole country. Stupidity on a cosmic level.

Wow, had not been following this. F*** him, Americans are hurting, I don't give a d*** about their politics. They need our help. Karma this b****. A fool like that should never again be an academic. Spreading his hate to others is unacceptable. Even though he clearly is a liberal, he does NOT represent what being a liberal should be about.

Not only is he fired but a Cat 5 is about to hit Florida. Man I really feel for those people down there. If I were Trump I'd be down there right now though.

Not the time for any sitting president to be in the way but several of the federal agencies should already be on the field of play.

I forsee MASSIVE MOUNTAINS OF REFUSE AND WRECKED HOUSEHOLD STUFF ...POPPING UP ALL OVER FLORIDA AGAIN...
just like after hurricane Andrew? In the 90's...
We flew down to visit friends in Ft Lauderdale....then drove down to Key West for an awesome vaction...

Those mountains of garbage could be seen for miles

I WONDER IF they eventually trucked ALL that refuse to the ports and dumped it at sea? Or are they still there?
