The only time I really pre-cut a cigar is before going to the beach or a hotel pool. Less to carry, limited pockets in my bathing suit, less to lose.

So recently I had a need to predict a few cigars for a ride trip from ME gulf coast to Phoenix AS we would be traveling through the night. Cut five and dropped them in the herfador. Makes it much easier to get a cigar while driving and not have to worry about pulling over to cut it. Now I didn't put any back in a humi because I only cut as many as I needed for the drive.
