Horton hears a hypocrite.

The Massachusetts elementary school librarian who rejected Dr. Seuss books donated by First Lady Melania Trump because the publication’s artwork contained “racist mockery,” was previously photographed dressed as the Cat in the Hat and holding a “Green Eggs and Ham” themed breakfast.

Liz Phipps Soeiro was busted Friday by Twitter users after she snubbed the First Lady’s donation to the Cambridgeport Elementary School. Soeiro wrote in a letter to Trump that the school could not accept the books, which included: “The Cat in the Hat,” “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

Yet Soeiro was seen in a March 2015 photo from the school's Twitter account holding a Cat in the Hat doll in one hand, a Green Eggs and Ham book in the other and Dr. Seuss-style stockings and hat -- and smiling while doing so.

But Soeiro said the school would “not be keeping the titles” for its collection because the institution “does not have a “NEED” for the books.

It was unclear if the school actually rejected the titles.

“I work in a district that has plenty of resources, which contributes directly to ‘excellence,’” Soeiro wrote. “My students have access to a school library with over nine thousand volumes and a librarian with a graduate degree in library science.”

Soeiro also said the books by Dr. Seuss contained illustrations “steeped in racist propaganda.”

“Another fact that many people are unaware of is that Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes,” Soeiro wrote, giving examples of "If I Ran a Zoo" and "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street" as clear “racist mockery” in Seuss’ art.

Did you read it?
Because the first thing I did when I read that "article" was Google her actual letter/response to receiving the books.

If you didn't read it you are literally going into a discussion poorly informed.

I'm sure she hates trump. That's not the theme of your article.

Have you read her response yet?

here is what Barack Obummer had to say in 2016 about reading and Dr. Suess..........
READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY, 2016
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA A PROCLAMATION

From a child's first foray into the depths of a story to an adult's escape into a world of words, reading plays an integral role in our lives.  Works of fiction and non-fiction alike pique interest and inspiration and shape our understanding of each other and ourselves, teaching us lessons in kindness and humility, responsibility and respect.  The moment we persuade a child to pick up a book for the first time we change their lives forever for the better, and on Read Across America Day, we recommit to getting literary works into our young peoples' hands early and often.
March 2 is also the birthday of one of America's revered wordsmiths. Theodor Seuss Geisel -- or Dr. Seuss -- used his incredible talent to instill in his most impressionable readers universal values we all hold dear.  Through a prolific collection of stories, he made children see that reading is fun, and in the process, he emphasized respect for all; pushed us to accept ourselves for who we are; challenged preconceived notions and encouraged trying new things; and by example, taught us that we are limited by nothing but the range of our aspirations and the vibrancy of our imaginations.  And for older lovers of literature, he reminded us not to take ourselves too seriously, creating wacky and wild characters and envisioning creative and colorful places.
Books reveal unexplored universes and stimulate curiosity, and in underserved communities, they play a particularly important role in prompting inquisition and encouraging ambition.  Last month, the First Lady announced the launch of Open eBooks, a new project that will unlock a world of learning and possibility for millions of American children and provide over $250 million worth of reading material to students who need it most.  As we work to get every child engrossed in literature, we honor the many people who devote their lives and careers to carrying forward this important cause -- including our librarians, educators, and parents.  We can all get lost in a good read, and we owe it to rising learners to give them the chance to experience that same enjoyment and fulfillment.
Today, and every day, let us celebrate the power of reading by promoting literacy and supporting new opportunities for students to plunge into the pages of a book.  As Dr. Seuss noted, "The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."  Together, we can help all children go plenty of places along their unending journey for knowledge and ensure everyone can find joy and satisfaction in the wonders of the written word.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 2, 2016, as Read Across America Day.  I call upon children, families, educators, librarians, public officials, and all the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of March, in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fortieth.

BARACK OBAMA

Her response was politically motivated.
A city employee, acting on behalf of the school, should never lets politics dictate decisions.

She very professionally rejected the books, and suggested that poor school systems might benefit more from such a donation.
She then said the books were racist, even though she has previously dressed in Dr. Suess characters.
She then did the best thing of all:
She blamed Betsy Devos for the plight of the educational system.

She's nothing but a stupid, partisan puppet for the left.

What was your take?

She "professionally" (I thought it was a little snarky, but within the bounds of decorum) rejected the books.
She suggested that the method of choosing what schools get these books shouldn't be on performance
She suggested the books would be better served at poorer schools
She stated that she believed Devos was making poor choices for the students at poor schools
She complained about school libraries being closed (I believe due to funding)
She stated that she thought the choice of books showed little thought, and recommended a resource for identifying less trite books.
Finally... after all that, she mentioned that the many of the characters and art in Dr. Seuss "steeped in racist propaganda"

1 paragraph out of 9, barely more than 10% of the letter. And in no way the reason she was rejecting the books. I will guarantee you that those books are already in the library. But that's what the Fox news focused on. In fact, any idiot who only read the fox news story would think her letter read "I can't take these books because the publication’s artwork contained racist mockery".... Yet that was never anything more than an afterthought (literally dumped into the second point under "and then there is the matter of the books themselves".... doesn't even rank above the originality of the choice itself.

And let's not forget the simple fact that she did not identify green eggs and ham, or the cat in the hat itself as the part of the art work which is racist. Even if this were the main part of her article (which it wasn't), perhaps it is the grinch or the lorax or some other character which is referred to as racist (I don't know my dr seuss characters). In which case the dressing up is completely irrelevant.

It's a dumb story by a dumb person posted by someone who doesn't critically assess the information.

My Dad used to make green eggs and ham for me when I was a kid. The novelty wore off rather quickly. But, collard greens and ham hocks make a fine meal. Just don't forget the cornbread and sweet tea.

The hunt for racism in our country has become as bad and damaging as McCarthyism was in the 50's. Sometimes a book with pictures for children is just that, a book with pictures for children. This should be a non story. An ignorant woman made a biased decision based on her opinion. Meh, it will happen again. Fire her, we do not need educators of her ilk. Victor, she did say racist propaganda, that is a fact.

Shoot especially if they was made by grandma, She would season the greens just right and man her cornbread made from scratch. Not that sissy sweet boxed crap. That kind of cooking is lost on today's youth. Everything they make comes from a box or a can now a days and out of a microwave. Has to be fast fast fast so they can get back to their Xbox's, cell phone texting and fidget spinners.

The game is the same. It never changes.

Even when the "tolerant" scream from the rooftops.

Pointing out the obvious is moot with the Left. They claim whatever they want and ignore the rest.
