You ever realize that if you replace the 'W' with a 'T' in the words, what, where, and when... you get the answers?

Two months ago the wife and I took her dog to the vet to have him checked out. Blood test all came back normal. A lump was found on his neck but was told it was just a fatty tumor and nothing to worry about and he was healthy as a horse. Now this morning when my wife got home from work we took the dogs out to do their thing and we noticed that her dog was running into things like the door, large plant pots we have in the back yard ect. I sat down with him and realized he could not see. We also noticed he was more lethargic than usual. I started checking him out very well and noticed the lump on his neck was now larger. My wife made a call to the emergency vets and off we went. They done some testing on his eyes to find that the pressure in his eyes was very high and drew some cells out from the lump to check it out. They came back and informed my wife and I that Rocco has lymphoma. We was told that he might live 4 weeks without treatment. She told us that with prednisone it could extend his life maybe 4 months. Of course by this time the wife and I are a total mess. The vet told us they have an Oncologist there and that they could treat Rocco with chemo. She said that the chances of extending his life for a year or more on chemo is great with the big possibility of putting the cancer in remission. We both perked up then knowing there was a fighting chance. Then the vet laid out the "BUT" chemo treatment alone is 5 grand then not to mention the weekly blood test and labs.

Rocco, that is his name, is a Rodesian Ridgeback also known as an African Lion Hound. He is the first dog my wife ever had in her life as her own dog. Needless to say they bonded very well. She was the one that had went and picked him out while I was at work with out talking to me first. Rocco guards her like a hawk. She would divorce me over that dog. She got him while we was in Charlottesville Virginia which was my first travel gig while working in the medical field. Rocco has traveled all across the US with my family and I. Other than me, he is my wife's best friend. After I had my stroke it seems Rocco was able to pick up on it and he quickly became my best friend as well. I remember when I came home from the hospital after the stroke that dog stuck to me like glue which was new. He would lay beside my chair in the office. When I would go to bed he would hop up and lay at my feet. Which I will say at times can be a pain in the arse seeing how he is pushing over 100lbs. Nothing like a freaking moose pinning your legs to the bed. He keeps me company while every one else is at work and he made me feel safe due to me being partially blind and deaf. I would know if some one was walking up the driveway long before they got to the door thanks to Rocco. The next few months is going to be pretty damn rough. Today is not a good day at all. Not talking

I appreciate it guys. The injection they gave him today seems to be helping him a little bit. The Vet told us it was more for his comfort to ease the swelling in the lymph glands. She sent us home with more of the same med to give to him but in pill form. At least we was given some time to prepare I guess. Usually I try to find the brighter side of things but with this I just dont have it in me at the moment.

Yes they do Rick become family so fast. I am one of those types that when I have a pet it is for life mine or theirs. I remember after my wife picked him up while I was at work. She came to the hospital and called the lab to ask for me to meet her at the back docks. When I had came out I remember seeing this huge horse with his head sticking out the window. She had did all this with out checking with me. Now at the time the agency I was working with put me and my family in corporate housing where ever I had traveled. I remember the wife and I getting into one heck of an argument because she did not think about how in the hell we was going to travel with such a huge dog. That night I called the agency and spoke with them about her getting the dog and they said it was ok and they would cover any cost and make sure they found housing that would allow Rocco to travel with us, so we kept him. They did this for two years then one day had a change in policy. After having him for 2 years they expected me to get rid of the dog. I spoke with the wife and needless to say she was extremely unhappy. I called the agency back and told them that was not an option. They pretty much told me I had no choice. Well, I would have thought by then they would have known me better. Give me an ultimatum and I will chose the one that they least like every time. Granted on our part it was probably a stupid choice but I told them that they said "ok" 2 years from the date we got him and to change that now was wrong. I was told "So you would chose the dog over your job" That pissed me off and I told them " Its not that I "would" its that I "have" and turned in my notice that day. Lucky for me I never put my eggs in one basket. I had registered with multiple agencies. In a days time I had another contract lined up with another company. That company still sends me emails and calls on occasion approx. 4 years later to try and get me to come back to work for them but once that trust was broken I would never have went back.

Now that I have had the stroke it is an impossibility to work again but I never have told them I had a stroke and never will. I will let them send emails and make phone calls till hell freezes over cause I am an ****. All for a dog that has been part of this family for years now and one of the best companions I think we have ever had. It is hard to think that this chapter in our lives and his will be over in a few short weeks.

Ewok, I feel your pain. I had to put my dog down about a month ago. He was 17 yrs old. My kids are 10 and 12 yrs old and don’t know life without Madison until recently.

His body was giving out and I was trying to do all I could to keep him going. Carrying him up and down the stairs and stuff. Then a friend stopped over and talked to me… “Look at him, he wants to go… you are only keeping him here for you… just let him go…” It was very tough time and it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.

Today is our turn........my sweet little girl,Stinky, has been fading for awhile. She has been having a hard time going up and down stairs and getting in and out of her chair,so I've been helping. Like Bucky says, I've been being selfish and my poor girl is getting tired. It's just my wife and I here ,so Stinky gets all of our attention......I work nights,so my wife is here with Stinky all night and gives her someone to talk to when I'm gone, and when I get home my wife is in bed, so I usually get my shoes off and sit chat with Stinky a bit before I go in and see my wife. We both love this little dog completely.....she has become much more than a "dog" to us........much like the family member I mentioned to Ewok the other day. I've known this day was coming for a little while, and I've selfishly postponed it for my own needs, but it can't be put off any longer..............I just made the call and we have a 5:30pm appt. Very sad day here, lots of tears, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. All the memories and good times we've had will live in my mind forever!
Thank You for all you have given us Stinky and We will always love and cherish you!

Thanks for listening guys

Although not my strength, let me provide a ray of sunshine.

Have. Big greyhound, coming up on 11 soon. Shelf life on a grey usually doesn't exceed 12 years. The bigger ones go more quickly. He's slowing but okay.

Ten dats ago, we brought a not quite three year old female greyhound home.

He now has a little spring is is step, and new energy in the house.

Kuba Rayne has brought out the sun.
