NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly has requested nearly $50 million per year in addition to the lifetime use of a private jet amid contract negotiations with the league.

Goodell, whose proposed contract with the NFL currently is undergoing an approval process, asked the league’s compensation committee in August to raise his salary from $30 million to $49.5 million per year, ESPN reported Sunday.

Goodell also reportedly asked to use a private jet for life, and also requested lifetime health insurance for his family.

The commissioner currently is embattled with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has threatened to sue the NFL if negotiations regarding Goodell’s contract extension are finalized without approval from all NFL team owners,

An unnamed NFL owner told ESPN that there are “several owners in this league who don’t make $40 million a year.” The owner added: “That number for Roger just seems too much. It’s offensive. It’s unseemly.”

Goodell has made headlines in recent months for his handling of league players protesting during the national anthem ahead of NFL games.

He said last month that “we want our players to stand” during the anthem, but stopped short of imposing a rule for players to do so.

One team owner, regarding the possibility Goodell possibly would leave his position, said “the problem” with the NFL is “no one is talking about games anymore.”

“It’s about concussions, Jones vs. Goodell, [Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension], the anthem. No one is talking about football. It’s just killing the game,” the owner told ESPN.

Another owner told the sports network that “Roger is defiant,” and they don’t believe he’ll “take a pay cut” or resign as commissioner of the NFL.

I saw some commercials of NFL players saying how much they appreciate and honor our veterans.

Just not enough to stand for the National Anthem and stuff...

Lip service.

Watched 10min of football for the 1st time this season yesterday, and made the same observation and comment. The blatant attempt to "suck up" to fans is appalling.

Lots of propaganda commercial spots from the NFL and players expressing their gratefulness. Would imagine these 15-30 second spots have to be taking away from valuable airtime revenue. But I guess the NFL has to fill the airtime since Papa Johns dropped their advertising.

Don't forget the lifetime use of a private jet.
At $50mil/year he can buy his own jet.
Goodell is a douchebag, and should be fired instead of extending his contract.

I love the NFL, but also don't think they should be getting tax breaks of any sort.

If you get to ignore someones stated thoughts or purpose and instead implant your view of their thoughts and purpose and you apply your view of their thoughts and purpose to every last one of them then I can understand your outrage.

Meh. Some interesting games yesterday and San Fran got a win. If you are a Giants of Niners fan its a great year to boycott LOL.

This is a drama queen PC issue to me stoked by a reality star. It's not politically correct to kneel and we demand political correctness.

By the way there was an pseudo organized boycott this weekend. The result roughly the same attendance as always. Most crowds increased a bit and a couple were in the 500 ish less range. That's through the turnstile though, not sales and weather may have factored in (good and bad)

NFL this or NFL that. Watch it or don't. It's been a fun season so far.

WTF dimension is he living in?

It makes me want to puke...
Total crazy demands for being a relative idiot manchild at his job.

Honestly, I don't see the owners revealing how much they make a year. Goodell's job is to make the owners money basically and he has done that successfully over the past decade. Do I think $50 million is a ludicrous number? Sure, but it may be the right number compared to owners earnings, we really don't know until they decide (which they never will) to let us know what they make. The NFL has been a cash cow for owners so why can't the person responsible for that get some of the action.

What we really should be upset about is how much money these owners are making and how that reflects to the average person being able to take his family to a game. The entire sports world could stand to make less imo.

^^Agreed, Shaun. Until lately the NFL has been a cash cow. It's still making money, but Goodell's mishandling of things lately is costing them revenue.

I think they have been and are just fine. They are printing money.

Concussions are likely their biggest risk, overexposure, and blundered city change things hurt a bit but I don’t think the politically correct crowd demanding players stand during the anthem are having much of an impact particularly long term.

And I’m sure none in here would ever be mad at a business for making money. Capitalism baby.

Meh. They be fine.

My ex father in law still thinks Ross Perot won the election because everyone he knows voted for him. He taught me a lot.

over-saturation in the same marketplace is the leading cause of any minor drop off. Thursday Night Football broadcasts were the likely starting point for this blip on the screen...that and the decades long goal of "parity" which instead of creating the goal of every team having a shot at the playoffs has instead:

1) made most teams mediocre and thus most games not special enough to draw new viewers, especially 3 days per week. and
2) not stopped the Patriots (and another couple teams for some 5 or 6 year runs) from being nearly excellent every year for nearly two decades...and I am not stirring the pot. They have been, and it has not helped the cause of making every year a fresh and new adventure.

It adds up to boring, the cardinal sin for sports looking to attract massive audiences. But if the trend was as alarming as I read here, they'd make changes to spice up the action...

But they have decided to try two things instead:

1) add a third night cuz having 900 million viewers watch 3 days per week is still more viewers than a billion 2 days per week, and
2) follow the explosive growth marketing plan of the NBA and explore the international market...games in England, Mexico, and I'd bet soon places like Germany, maybe even China. They already had Buffalo play home games in nearby Toronto not long ago.

Tim I am in full boycott.........and that's from a Pat's fan, little tougher than a Giants or Niners fan.

This IMHO has schit to do with political correctness. If you cannot show the least amount of respect, standing,to honor those that have bled for this nation, those that left it all on the field of battle to insure that our constitution remained in force, that our children grew up speaking English rather than German,Italian or Japanese, that we freely practice any religion of our choice or none at all..........I could go on and on.If that is asking too much......**** em,**** em all.

Lastly, those of us who did serve and didn't bring home all our Brothers.......I for one take this personally.**** the NFL and the horse they rode in on.
