I'm sure its all in my head; and I know I'm in a distinct minority, but I could never smoke one of these without thinking, "Hmm...if I were to ever smoke a piece of chalk, I think it would taste exactly like this"

heh heh...........maybe that's what they taste like fresh?
I wouldn't know, because I always let mine sit for a year or so.
Smoking some 2.5 year old ones now, and they are dang good.

Wow, such hate for one of my favorite golfing smokes.

Rarely do they fall apart, rarely do they disappoint.

Can't say the same about many other snobish broadleafs out there that tend to unravel half way through on the golf course.

Everybody's tastes are different so if you don't like 'em you don't like em. Some very highly rated and beloved sticks out there I can't stand, but these for me are very flavorful and -as you noted - are great quality. For, for me, they even rival the V Milano's (which I do think are a bit better but not worth the huge price difference)

In all, OMBIII is a really good quality smoke that is good ROTT and improves with some age and that, for $2.99 including shipping, is a deal that can't beat. Find me another $3 cigar of this quality and I will buy it!

You had me up to the point up until the Melanios (one of my all time favs). I do think it rivals the Maduro version of the Melanio... which I do like, just no where near as much as the Sumatra version.

I like the Melanio's at the $5 price point for robs and $6-7 for torps and churchills. Anytime those show up at that price point, I usually buy some no matter how many I have in stock. I usually have enough on hand to where I don't need to purchase above that range.

One thing that this MB3 deal does for me (don't know if it's good or bad), is it makes me hesitate to buy more expensive broadleaf cigars because for me the MB3s are usually as good or better in most cases for my tastes.

I did a test one time this subject came up, where I smoked an MB3 followed by a Tat TAA 11 and a Tat 7th reserva. I didn't think the 7th was any better, but the TAA 11 was significantly better. In hindsight, I should have smoked one my MB3s that have some age on it to compare, as I think it would have been a closer battle with the TAA.

Anyway, I was just talking trash, cause that's what I do.

LOL: well they ain't that bad, BUT they ain't GREAT either! Can't touch Oliva VDrool . At $3per they are a GOOD buy. For the usual $10+ per for the Churchill size not even close.

Good point about the maduro/Sumatra distinction, but at this price (more than 50% cheaper even if you find a Melano discout) I'll take the OMB. Personally if take the price out of it, I like the Melano V torp the best and one of the best blendlabs ever was the Melano V prototype in torp which, at the end of the blendlab era were $1per at the Superstore. Still have quite a few in the coolador.

You sure about that?
On page 8?
My catalog says 79.95............3.99/ea.

Maybe that place has shiny metal memberships, and members get different catalogs?

Well I smoked one of my well rested Churchills last night.............and it was indeed great.
Note that I've had it resting for over 2.5 years, and once they have a nap like that, they are a totally different cigar imho.
To those of you who bought some, just bury 5 or 10 of them for a few years.........you'll be amazed.

One thing I have noticed, in the Robusto (5x50).........is sometimes you can get a "light" one, as in, not quite as tobacco packed as others. These need to be puffed carefully, as in a bit lighter, or they can have a tendency to overheat.

I can't take it back, I would be lying!!!

Anyway, my fav tats/pepin aren't even broadleaf... :P

My top 5 Pepin (at least right now... as you all know, tastes change):

My Father Le Bijiou
My Father
Tat Capa Especial
Pepin Blue
Tat Miami

I like Flor de las Antillas too, but I don't think it makes the top 5, just an honorable mention.

With all that said, I do like Tat reservas ;)

So string me up fellas, beat me like a pinata.

I stand corrected King. $59.95 verses $79.95 d'oh! My dyslexia is acting up today.

And just like that the "flash" is gone, didn't last the whole day.

Fair smoke. I guess with age they may taste better. I’m not a fan either.
