A top official at the Department of Justice (DOJ) was demoted this week after it was discovered that he withheld information from his superiors about his prior contacts to Fusion GPS — the “opposition research” firm that created the salacious and unverified Trump-Russia dossier.

Fox News’ Chief Washington Correspondent James Rosen reported in an exclusive on Thursday that Bruce G. Ohr — who held two titles at the DOJ — was demoted after an ongoing investigation into his contacts revealed that he was connected to Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson and to the author of the Trump-dossier, Christopher Steele.

Ohr, whose boss is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, served as an associate deputy attorney general and the director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF).

Evidence gathered by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) showed that Ohr met with Steele during the 2016 presidential campaign and then met with Simpson shortly after the presidential election. The dossier from Fusion GPS, created by Steele, was financed by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Ohr’s connections to Fusion GPS are made even more significant by the simple fact that he did not disclose his contacts with Steele and Simpson to the HPSCI.

Initial evidence suggests that Simpson and Ohr came to know each other through Steele, who is believed to have known Ohr for over a decade. Ohr met with Simpson around the time of Thanksgiving in 2016 to discuss the “anti-Trump dossier, the Russia investigation and what Simpson considered the distressing development of Trump’s victory.”

When people lie or withhold information about contacts that could be perceived as a conflict of interest or are specific to an investigation they should be demoted or maybe even fired.

If there is anyone else lying or withholding contacts they should get same.

Endemic of this investigation, which is a bigger problem than the non-crimes they've found.

The other guy who was let go months ago, and they never said one peep to anyone. Very problematic I don't care who is in office.

They let him go. And they should. It’s the right thing.

I like how he’s not playing this out in the public and we know very little about the investigation.

If want to work in the DOJ you need to leave your politics behind.

I’m glad he’s approaching it differently than congress. Professionally and avoiding politics. Shot canning them when they come in to play. It’s a good thing.

Ignoring subpoenas......they've not reigned in something that's gotten out of control.

We're you OK with Scooter Libbey's conviction when they KNEW WHO FU**ING leaked the name of the broad ?

There are a lot of moving parts and he’s not gone out of bounds at all. It’s set up to not let Congress get in the way of the investigation which they would, and are trying to. I’m glad he’s trying to keep politics out of it.

The assistant AG has oversight. We know very little about the investigation and rightly so. All we have is the inditements and convictions. Any talk about things running amuck is based on zero information and a desire to have no investigation.

I’m glad he’s not running it like Congress where the Dems are leaking anything that looks damaging and the Republicans are negligent and acting like defense attorneys.

I’m perfect cool with how he’s doing things and hope he finds nothing on Trump for the sake of the country. People laying the groundwork for calling it a bogus investigation with no information are basically setting up to disputed any findings even if legitimate. I do trust mueller more than trump or congress. The smear job is ugly.

Relitigaing libby is a shiny object.
