They are so pushy and even threatening. I called the sheriff to complain and they said I was the fifth or so harassment complaint they received that morning.

A couple years ago, the DARE officer at my kids school was caught embezzling money from donations.

Instantly lost respect for the police.

Reap what they sew.

A year previous, his assistant principal was busted for doing the same with a popcorn fund. $300.

Instantly lost respect for school administators.

Reap what you sew.

Years ago, my Father owned a restaurant. He got sick at one point so I stepped in and was running it for him while also doing a regular full time job. I got a call from my boss one day at work that the Sheriff had called and was looking for me. WTF? I didn't know what the hell was going on so I called him and asked what he needed. He was just wondering if the restaurant wanted to donate some gift certificates to the Police Ball that year. I was f*cking livid. I told him to go f*ck himself and that him calling me at my regular job in his capacity as Sheriff was the most unprofessional thing I had ever seen and he could stay the f*ck outta my restaurant. F*ck him and da police.

every so often we get calls looking for donations for the police.
Always a booming voice guy, usually starts out with something like "Mr. Franjk1, this is John Irishname from the Localtown Police. Can we count on you for blah blah blah?"

I say, "Hi John. Are you a member of the localtown police, or do you work for the fundraising company?"

After he admits he is not a cop, I apologize and tell him I do not donate to any causes over the phone.

The vast majority of these donations goes to the fundraisers, not the police.

I don't know if it gets you on a no no list but I can tell you this.

One year I had got a call for a donation for our local. I made a donation and in return they sent me a little package that contained 6 mini jars of jam. I was like Meh it was cool. About 3 months later I was running late for my PADI class so I was speeding doing 55 in a 35. I got pulled over. The officer took my license and then came back. He said and I quote. "You the guy that donated 50 bucks to the local police department?" I said yes sir. He asked how I liked the jams, I told him the strawberry was my favorite. He said "very nice, just a warning slow it down and sent me on my way.

It would have been one thing if it was in a small backwoods town but Hickory NC is not small, So yeah....

Most of those telephone charities are scams who give only a very small percentage of their proceeds to law enforcement organizations to stay inside legal lines, and pocket the rest

Make it a rule #1: do not send money to people who call you saying they are a charity and ask for donations to their "cause"

Rule #2: ignore/screen all calls from telephonic fundraisers.

Rule #3: if a telephone charity knows your number is live (you violated rules 1 and 2), block their number because your phone will ring incessantly

Hang up...

But I always burst out laughing before I do...
BUT....OVER THE LAST 1-2 YEARS I SAY :

"WHEN THAT SCUMBAG S.S.G. FIELD CHIEF GARY O'CONNOR RETURNS THE MILLION ++ IN CASH HE AND HIS FBI FIELD AGENTS STOLE FROM MY HOUSE IN 2013....
I'LL SEND YOU $20 BUCKS...TILL THEN...NO WAY IN HELL"

THEN I HANG UP.

( PLEASE NOTE : I A.M. A PROFESSIONAL AND
I A.M. ALREADY "ON DA' LIST" WITH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO LOSE....SO, I COULD CARE LESS)

well, at least they do it over the phone, instead of in person after a few solid backhands and a firearm brandish...although I am fairly sure that still happens in Miami. Mellow

I get calls from the local police to donate. The problem is they don't serve my area, the county sheriffs do. When I tell them this there is a silent pause, then an oops, then a hang up.

I was speaking of my son.

I've had two experiences with dirty cops myself. Understanding most are good. You just need one bad one, one time.

This. They're scams that skim most of the donations for "expenses".

How you gonna come?

How you gonna go?

Or waiting on death row"
