I'm sorry I do NOT feel as though we OWE them ANYTHING...and I want all that $$$$ spent on these law breakers to go to OUR CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN.

If they( the F'n dreamers) want to be pissed @ someone or something....let them focus their angst on THEIR PARENTS or the corrupt Sh*thole government they they came from and now abandoned.

DACA kids actually registered, that's how we know who they are specifically.

And I can't quote specific numbers, but these aren't the illegals costing money at all. The opposite is true.

An enormous percent have completed high school and beyond, served in OUR military, and have paid their full share of taxes.

I have a problem with children being considered criminals because of their parents, though I understand your feeling that illegal is illegal...but wouldn't you agree with me that these kids have grown up to be pretty much what we want immigrants to become in America? Positive forces, earning and paying their way and actually outperforming kids born here?

We know neither of us will change, but it's a good debate.

The cost of losing DACA recipients to our economy is pretty big. That is the reason why I think Republicans will end up making a deal to keep them here. They pretend that they're against illegal immigration when really it's straight out of the right-wing neo-con playbook. They love it because it helps corporations and the economy...more customers, plus more workers to drive down wages = more $$$

When the Koch brothers founded CATO Institute is showing numbers in favor of keeping illegals, you know what time it is...

From what I see deals keep getting made and goalposts keep moving once the people in the room change. Not just on this.

As for the rhetoric of not finding the military and choosing them over blah blah blah... that sure is different than last time.

I’m not bagging on either side I’m bagging on both. It’s funny how differently folks in here treat it depending on where their guy sits. It’s absurd yet many can’t see this.

We need bipartisanship. This little experiment with both sides needing 100% victory has been a disaster and failure and needs to end. It’s the whole reason we haven’t been on a normal funding cycle for years.

Many in here want it. They consider the other side the enemy and need 100% victory. Some, who I have zero respect, think the other party is more evil than enemy countries run by dictators.

The other party isn’t the enemy. There are good people on all sides, all sides. Finding the silver lineing and some reason in the other side isn’t becoming them, compromise is good (Reagan thought so).

The 100% my way or not at all crowd was the fringe and amusing. It’s not amusing anymore and is dangerous. It’s not what our country is or ever has been. That’s what drives the ugliest countries in the world yet what some in here seem to want.

I’m hopeful this little experience will push those freaks back to the fringes and what made this country great and special will prevail again.

well said...

some observations...I remember many on the cons side celebrating during the last shutdown, thinking that was the key to bringing down Obamacare...but where was the "military vs healthcare" argument then.....the same people are now outraged, framing the debate as military over illegals now....and outraged that the Dems wouldn't cave to avoid a shutdown, like they did then?

and yet both shutdown votes come with a resolution to fund the military even if there is a shutdown...

all in the name of political gamesmanship/brinksmanship...something the people who voted for Trump allegedly wanted to end, but who seem to enjoy one side (theirs) sticking it to the other without looking for solutions that all Americans can live with...an idea from when America was greater...

now they are 24, yes.
They didn't go to college and serve in the military upon arrival as "criminal" children

Agreed. A shutdown represents an unwillingness to compromise on both sides. Unacceptable. Maybe too many old vendettas there to function properly. Incumbents need to go and we need to hit the reset button.

You celebrating?
You elected a great negotiator who couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag.

Illegal immigrants in this country cost tax-payers insane amounts of money. Numbers show DACA recipients to be a net-benefit to the economy, as are most 2nd/3rd generation immigrants. Does a net-benefit to the economy really help our current immigrants and the average American? At the moment it depends on how much you support trickle-down theory.

Some like George Borjas have argued that first genereation immigrants transfer money from the bottom to the top in this country. I happen to agree with him. Doesn't mean that I don't want legal immigration in this country. Quite the opposite. Just looking for better policies that we actually enforce. Most people want DACA to stay. Most people also want immigration reform.

Sometime the can kicking of the budget has to stop. The government shut down has happened before and will happen again. Democrats do not trust the president or the republicans to do any DACA legislation. Why would they? As a whole dreamers are solid people, not criminals. Those that I know add to our society. As part of comprehensive immigration reform there should be granted a path to citizenship.

As much as I despise trump as a person and think he’s an embarrassment I was sort of hopeful he could negotiate and stuff. Maybe next year.
