The MSRP of Gurkas is questionable to say the least.. I'm not saying they are not allowed if you like one and think someone else will then cool ... I've had a couple that weren't bad but I got them pretty cheap... There's been some examples of what everyone else is gonna send... Unless they win of course... Laugh

I'll donate 2 squares to OpFTH if you want to pick the squares somehow and I supply the cigars. I tried to do it but they wouldn't let me pick squares in another name, maybe they will for the person that set it up.

Well, there's a few more days left. I don't know if it's a good idea to send 50 super premiums to the troops if the square hits (most of them aren't exactly connoisseurs).

I can picture 3/4 of an opus being chucked because it's not as good as that last acid that they smoked.

Shaun, I don't plan on joining as my stash isn't what it once was.

I will be happy to put the entry in the grid for the troops if you would like.

This goes for anyone else who is looking to donate a square(s).

I picked two more squares, for a total of 7.

How about this proposal for left-over squares?

Let them be pledged to OpFTH, and whoever adopts that square does so on behalf of OpFTH. For those who are squeamish about sending premiums to OpFTH, how about a winning OpFTH square be worth 5 everyday smokes, so that players designated to pay that winner off will send 5 everyday cigars rather than two premiums? The Pledge for that square will pay off with two premiums if it loses to a player, or send 5 everyday cigars if it is designated to send to a winning OpFTH square. Players designated to pay off a winning OpFTH square will send 5 everyday smokes, not 2 premiums.

I'll sign up for 3 of the open squares left, if they'll be designated for donation to OpFTH should they win. If a OpFTH square is a winner, and my sponsored OpFTH square is selected to pay off the winner, I'll send 5 everyday smokes. As a sponsor of an OpFTH square, I'll pledge 2 premiums (not 5 everyday) when that square is designated to pay a winning player off.

That's pretty confusing.

Had a feeling X would have a hard time filling this thing.

Keeping it simple, if you have to payout 2 premiums even if it hits, why not just add the square to your collection as opposed to having people send 5 regulars for every square you bought if it hits?

IMO, not every contest needs to have OpFTH in it. There's plenty where it makes sense, but in this case, I don't think it makes a lot of sense.

This will just make a huge mess of the payouts if one of them hits. Also, how do you decide who gets to send regulars vs premiums?

Why is it such a problem that I want to donate 2 squares for OpFTH. If I put up the ante and you have to pay them, you obviously didn't win so pay up and think about the good your losing wager has done.

So we can only give OpFTH everydays now.....How about the thousands of bundle cigars that guys giving their lives have to endure out there when they smoke Fuente, and Padrons at home? I am borderline pissed that this is the way we think about donating cigars to our troops, and to a great charity that many people from here put their heart and sole into without taking a dime for it.

By the way I added 2 squares to my name and I want those 2 OpFTH squares now and I want premiums sent to them if they win!

We both have valid points, and you're right, your squares, you can do what you want with them, and if I have to send to one of your troops squares so be it.

I'm still of the opinion that premium cigars are wasted on non-connoisseurs.

I would put the probability that the cigars actually get into the hands of someone who would truly appreciate them for what they are vs any other random smoke they are given at a very low number.

I would also argue that given a giant box of cigars with the premiums that we're playing for were mixed in with fancy looking gurks and nc RYJ's and nc Partagas's (or other stolen brand names)... after everyone picks a smoke, the pile that was left would primarily be premiums.

I'm a logical thinker, and I think donating super premiums to un-known smokers is illogical.

The one saving grace to playing a game like this is knowing that the recipient of the smokes you lose are going to appreciate them and enjoy them for what they are.

So which two squares are you donating?

So if it were a money block pool then would you only want people in the pool that are spending their winnings on fancy dinners and expensive whiskey? That is not right if you ask me. Its not up to the losers to depict how the winners enjoy their prizes.

I've met a couple recipients from donations.. they are very knowledgeable as to what they were receiving.. I work with a guy that served and received that knows much more than I do.. I will concede that alot of noobs try their first cigars from our gifts but they aren't the ones opening the boxes and distributing them...
We all love da troops and donate when we can.. if we need to dedicate a few squares to them I'm all for it.. but let's give this a little more time..

That analogy though... lol

Doesn't make sense :P

Obviously a money pool would be, you put up the required money, you're in!!!

Nobody would gaf what you did with the money if you lost.

Everyone can enjoy money equally!!!

They're not going to spend 5 of the a $20 prize then throw the other $15 in the toilet because it tastes like azz.

I already agreed with you though, you can do what you want with your squares obviously, doesn't mean I can't have an opinion of it :P

Edit:

I do agree with you shaun though that if the troops have squares, the units should still be premiums.
