The calendar for this season is up:

https://morrobaylanding.fishingreservations.net/sales/

Season should start April 1st... the only dates I can't make would be April 8 and May 13....

FISHING

Last year, the fishing was amazing... this year should be the same.... fishing is aboard the Endeavor with captain Brad (I'm gonna bring him a cutter this year so he doesn't bite any cigars)... the trip will be scheduled for 12 hours but will likely end early due to success... we motor north up the coast from Morro Bay for about 2 and a half hours to fertile grounds that are only fished twice per week...

All said and done, you can expect to have as much as 20-30 lbs in filets... more if you get some giant ling cod...

LODGING

Same house as last time? If we're welcome back, I was happy with it... are we welcome back there MACS? I don't remember anything being destroyed other than the bathroom... poor, poor bathroom...

FOOD

I'll have all the fish taco stuff ready again... Al did a great job cooking last time so I'm all for nominating him chef... I can bring some nasty soy paste almond butter vegan Ice cream if anyone is dead set on it being exactly like last time...

1. Opel
2. Macs
3. Al
4. Anthony
5. Victor
6. Drafter?

I think May 13 would be the better choice, myself. Warmer, and gives us a bit longer to watch the counts, and for Captain Brad to find the hot spots.

We're certainly welcome at the house. I got no complaints, but I think the capacity is 5, comfortably. My buddy Glenn may be in, too... and he has a 5th wheel.

I am in, and will gladly handle chef duties! The house was adequate for the four of us, but with only one bathroom, it would not be a good choice if the group is larger this year. There may be larger houses for rent in the area...

Oh, sh*t... my bad, brother. I thought it said the only dates you CAN make. I say late May. Warmer and Brad will have found the honey holes by then.

I mean... if I'm there... sure.
If there's no room on the boat I suppose I could just sit on the dock and masturbate...

I'm going to propose May 19-21 with the 20th being our day to fish... thoughts on this?

with drafter and Victor we're at 6... so we've outgrown our previous accommodations... a quick glance at airbnb shows some real beautiful places, some right near the landing...

Um... not to split hairs, but I am the one who brought the pulled pork last time.

19-21 works for me. I'll just need to take Saturday off.

I’ll be there. I’ll get my plane ticket once a date is set. Just need a ride back and forth from the airport.

Same drill as last time? Biggest fish gets the crapper first? Smallest bag cooks the fish? MACS pulls over on the median to take a pizz?

Got some 10 oz diamond jigs on the way... I'm trying to decide between picking up some 8 oz eel jigs (which wouldn't be too different from the diamonds) or some 8 oz jig heads that we can pair with some big swim baits... you guys have any interest in trying swimbaits out?

MACS/DELTA/ANTHONY - thoughts on this? swim baits take a little more finesse than lead jigs, but they can be a lot of fun if they work...

a couple seasons back, I think up in berkley, someone did indeed go swimming... some frat boy group went fishing and dared one of the guys to jump in... captain called in the coast guard... pretty sure the kid did a little community service and paid a $15k fine... probably not worth it...

https://www.military1.com/coast-guard/article/110756014-uscg-fines-calif-fisherman-5k-for-jumping-off-charter-boat/

By Nels Johnson
The Marin Independent Journal

MARIN, Calif. — A man who jumped from a fishing boat into the ocean off Muir Beach to win a bet lost big time as the Coast Guard issued a $5,000 fine.

The incident last week aboard the party boat Bass Tub stunned 13 others aboard including the captain and crew, who swung into a life-or-death rescue.

Veteran skipper Erik Anfinson of Sleepy Hollow said his brother, Aaron, was at the helm a mile off Muir Beach near the end of a bountiful day off the coast, heading home with limits of striped bass and rockfish, and a couple of lingcod as well.

"My brother heard the deckhand yell, 'Man overboard!' and looks back and sees a guy in the water," Anfinson said. "Aaron swung the boat around and the deckhand threw a life preserver."

When the man was hauled aboard, he looked at his fishing buddies and said, "I guess I won that bet," Anfinson added, noting skippers must report all such incidents to the Coast Guard.

"We take these things very seriously," Anfinson said, adding it was the first time a passenger had jumped off the Bass Tub into the ocean. "He could have killed himself."

The Coast Guard was not amused, either, Chief Warrant Officer Paul Taylor said.

He noted that a 1998 law makes passengers liable for interfering with the safe operation of a boat, with fines of up to $30,000.

The $5,000 fine handed down after the incident off Muir Beach was "as far as I know ... the first of its kind" in the Bay Area, Taylor added. "But the Coast Guard has issued many of these, mostly at other ports," including Seattle, where passengers were tagged for jumping from ferries, Taylor said.

"Warnings have proved not to be a deterrent," he said, noting such misbehavior jeopardizes the safety of passengers and crew.

In the Bay Area, "we wanted to head it off at the pass before it became a problem" by imposing a fine pronto, the Coast Guard official said.

The wayward fisherman, who was not identified, may appeal to a hearing officer to get the fine reduced.

we can find the fish with electronics... however, if I accidentally snag one of my favorite jigs on a rock 300 feet down, well there's simply no electronic device to get that loose... so ya, bring your gear victor...

Only been to 110. On air I only get about 10 min down there at that depth... on Nitrox I can get a little longer.

Gotta calculate in nitrogen narcosis as you get deeper... and if you run nitrox to combat that, you've got to calculate the partial pressure of oxygen to make sure you don't have a seizure under water.

I'm gonna try a deeper (I think 130-140?) dive next time I get a solo shot at cenotes. Devil's Bell or something like that
