In an interview with the Associated Press on Friday, Trump was asked whether it was still fair to use the stock market as a scorecard to evaluate the success of his presidency.

"You live by the sword, you die by the sword, to a certain extent," Trump told the AP.

I don't think he's capable of self deprecating humor....but I would give him big props if he tweets something like this tonight...."Oops...Sorry, Dow...my bad"

The closest thing to a consensus is that nobody has a clue what happened....or why, anyway. THAT concerns me a LOT more than the dip. No news - no indicators - no nothing. Makes you wonder what role program trading had, if it can be 'calculated'. The universe of program trading concerns me greatly, but for reasons more emotional than rational. I am uneasy with the idea that we've surrendered control of the markets -- which might be fine if we were talking about a few fat cats and their play money. But IRA's and pension funds affecting an awful lot of hard working Americans are reliant on an integrated AI system that nobody fully understands. I felt for a long time that a correction was necessary....I just wish that some expert somewhere....ANY expert could explain the last couple days

Drafter does have a buttload of experience with anal herpes (see what I did there)... maybe we should listen to what he has to say.

I didn't mention your public golden showers fetish... I was talking about the butt herpes I read on the internet you had.

But since you wanted to discuss your desire to get golden showers while standing on the public sidewalk we can talk about that too...

I read on the internet that drafter likes to get peed on while standing naked on public sidewalks....

If you can't tell with Frankie tripod pulls out then maybe you're using lidocaine instead of Vaseline.

There have to be a few bargains in this heap.

Keep hearing how Amazon is still underpriced.

Maybe I should just buy 1/10,000th a share of Berkshire Hathaway and Let Warren handle this.

Only those who pulled their money out lost. If you left it alone it is way up over the ensuing years. After all it was retirement money not needed to pay current bills, no?

I've been hearing about a "market correction" for years... all while the dow went up, and up, and up.

I missed out on some serious interest because I played it safe and kept my $$ in a fixed account. *shrug*

I've never been much of a gambler.

Unlike the past 10 years, economy is on the up and up. Buy the dips and otherwise don't worry about the market. With the corporate tax changes companies will report record profits and their stocks will follow.

IMO investing IS gambling. You're betting the market will go up and not crash... sure, history is on your side, but it has crashed.

My 457 is icing. I shouldn't need it. As it stands I will be able to withdraw 1k a month in interest and never touch the principal.

1k a month is a lot of fishing boat. Just saying.

Icing is an apt description. Check the fine print in your prospectus. There are management fees tied to every retirement account no matter what you are invested in. At least in our current environment, and for the last decade, if you are in "safe" investments those fees probably equal any earnings.

Valid point... and what the hell do I know, I moved my entire account into the fixed fund just before the market damn near doubled. d'oh!
