#48, interesting read. Does anything really exist that isn't definable by one of your senses? Does it exist only when you interact with it? Odd notions but interesting none the less.

Ok cath I will go with number 6 of best philosophical questions.

6. Can you really experience anything objectively?

There's a difference between understanding the world objectively (or at least trying to, anyway) and experiencing it through an exclusively objective framework. This is essentially the problem of qualia — the notion that our surroundings can only be observed through the filter of our senses and the cogitations of our minds. Everything you know, everything you've touched, seen, and smelled, has been filtered through any number of physiological and cognitive processes. Subsequently, your subjective experience of the world is unique. In the classic example, the subjective appreciation of the color red may vary from person to person. The only way you could possibly know is if you were to somehow observe the universe from the "conscious lens" of another person in a sort of Being John Malkovich kind of way — not anything we're likely going to be able to accomplish at any stage of our scientific or technological development. Another way of saying all this is that the universe can only be observed through a brain (or potentially a machine mind), and by virtue of that, can only be interpreted subjectively. But given that the universe appears to be coherent and (somewhat) knowable, should we continue to assume that its true objective quality can never be observed or known? It's worth noting that much of Buddhist philosophy is predicated on this fundamental limitation (what they call emptiness), and a complete antithesis to Plato's idealism.

Truthfully, if anyone is looking for proof of multiple dimensions/realities/universes look no further than the individuality that exists within cognisance. Your perception of me is not the same as spey's nor will it be the same as drafter's nor will it be hamks. And Hamk might live in a reality where he feels the only way to great people is by painting his nutsack and putting it on a usps box but in frank's reality, doing something like that would be a joke. Suppose my herd of cattle spoke of me as a god or some great prophet because every time they saw me I brought them corn and hay. May victor sees angels in his dong pic collection.

I cannot enter their reality, they cannot enter mine. Perhaps this is the "great chasm" referenced in Christianity and Islam where no man or woman may pass.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 Update
Have put this update off for over a year. Now I know why! Have to reformat my computer hard drive and start over from scratch!
Brick wall Brick wall Brick wall
What a PITA! So much for an easy update!!! Last time I went through this "update" with a new iMac it took 3 days to complete the macOS, Adobe Creative Suite, and other software updates!

Pizzes me off to no end when trying to make a living behind a computer screen while watching the update progress bar spin for hours and not being able to produce any work,. And I still am not allowed to smoke a cigar, let alone any grass!!!

Pass another bottle of f*ckin' of vodka please! AAARGH!!!

Very good indeed!

Now here is the rub, Since everything you've touched, seen, smelled, experienced and learned has been filtered through any number of physiological and cognitive processes. (Your reality so to speak) are you then able to view yourself objectively?

OR, is it possible that these filters which as you have said "are different for everyone" Can they be the hindrance that prevents anyone from being able to view themselves or anyone else objectively?

Hamk might live in a reality where he feels the only way to great people is by painting his nutsack and putting it on a usps box and also feels its right.

In frank's reality, doing something like that would be a joke and feels its right.

Your herd of cattle spoke of you as a god or some great prophet because every time they saw you, You brought them corn and hay and you feels this is right.

Victor see angels in his dong pic collection and feels its right.

But, we all know Victor is just plain WRONG because with the majority of us our perception is not as Phuged up and skewed as VIC's and I feel I am right?

That is actually one of the top 10 Philosophical questions in dealing with Reality in its true definition and Perception. Kind of falls in that old adage and I do hate saying this but "Does a tree fall in the woods if you do not see it fall or hear the sound"

My favorite is "Schrödinger's cat"
The prevailing theory, called the Copenhagen interpretation, said that a quantum system remained in this superposition until it interacted with, or was observed by, the external world, at which time the superposition collapses into one or another of the possible definite states.

Allen, here is a basic video showing that things do in fact change just from being observed vs when not observed and kind of answers your question "Does it exist only when you interact with it?." Otherwise known as the quantum enigma. It is a 5 minute video and IMHO well worth a watch.

Supposed to continue remodeling a hundred year old house today. We’ve already demolished the two bathrooms, but before we can start the next phase we have to get under the house to shore up the center sill and replace some floor joists. But, it poured here last night and this AM so the job site is going to be a slop hole. Gave that crew the day off.

Freaking rain interrupted morning bike ride. Only got 17 minutes in before knocking off. Maybe a window of opportunity this afternoon after the front moves through but riding into a 20 mph headwind will be extra fun.

Twofer Tuesday

Already posted about the A-Holes calling this past weekend indicating I had four criminal charges pending and I need to make it right or get picked up. Well yesterday I get a call on my cell allegedly
from Microsoft about error messages due to drivers not working properly in my laptop. All I had to do was give him access to my computer and he could correct the problem. I advised I was not at home and we agreed for him to call a couple of hours later. I did ask where he was located and he indicated in NY. Thought it was somewhat strange that the number on caller ID was from NC and not NY. As soon as we were off the phone, I called the NC number and the recording stated number had been disconnected. I then called Microsoft and was advised that Microsoft is like the IRS in that they will never call you unless their call has been previously arranged between you and them.

A-Hole called back five times beginning at the arranged time. Never did answer and let him continue to waste his time. Also noticed that the incoming calls this time showed caller unknown.

^^^ all scams, I have seen the ones with IRS and have also seen the microsoft errors scam, Yeah do not give no one access to chit. You can find youtube videos on what both scams entail. Once these a holes have your number it will never stop. The IRS scam will go on for quite a few months after tax season.

My advise, change your phone number.

Guess I'm going to have to get a new phone answering machine. I get 4-5 calls each day from scams, solicitors, etc. I don't answer if they are not on my address book. When my machine answers and asks to leave a msg they usually hang up.

Problem is my machine continues to record even though there is no sound so I have to listen to about a 15 second recording of nothing before I delete the msg. No reason the machine should record anything if no msg is left.

Sitting here in the reception area of a lawyer's office while my wife is giving her deposition on a wrongful death/ malpractice suit . The patient died 5 years ago.
What was supposed to be a 15-20 minute meeting has taken on a life if it's own. It's now been an hour and a half ! My wife says the attorney for the plantiffs is a friggin' idiot and has no clue.
At least the receptionist has been supplying me with decent coffee.

To Victor, I really loved the podcast.

A little off the subject but One of things mentioned during the cast was corpus callosotomy or split brain surgery. I have got to see exactly what was being spoke of in the cast were the one consciousness becomes 2 seperate different consciousness in one person at the exact same time. Truly amazing to witness in life. I was lucky enough to get to set in a few surgeries involving this. Also, one of my best friends his wife had to have this done due to a server head injury from a car accident that caused her to have Intractable epilepsy. One of the big issues she then ran into was something as simple as driving. Reason being is the 2 consciousness would argue on actions of what should be done in say a defensive manor. Basic example car coming head on at her, one hemisphere would say quick go right and the other hemisphere would say quick go left.

I will have to research this Dr that was being hosted on this cast. I do appreciate the link Vic. ThumpUp

Glad you liked it. You Are Not So Smart is a podcast I listen to regularly. Very interesting generally.... He gets a lot of smart people to interview, so you may find it worthwhile to follow.

The brain is a particularly interesting topic... simply because it filters our perception in the investigation of it.... so ultimately we cannot look at it from the outside.

I like to phukk with them.
I keep them on the phone as long as I can, wasting THEIR time by asking a bunch of stupid questions.
When the "Windows" guy calls, I always repeat the code he tells me to type in, but I always replace one of the numbers or letters.
For example . . .
Let's say he tells me to type in A684VT.
I will repeat back to him, "Okay, that's 8684VT, correct ?
No sir, That's A684VT.
OH, okay. That's A 684V3.
NO SIR, That A684VT !
I'm sorry, but I must have a bad connection. Let me get this right. It's A684ET ?
I keep on substituting similar sounding letters and #'s and listen to his frustration level grow until he finally gives up and hangs up the phone. I have nothing better to do with MY time (I'm retired), but HIS time is $$$ to him.

I have different scenarios for different callers.
The "Credit Card Debt Relief" people, the "You have won an all expenses paid trip to Hawaii" people, etc.

Now, I'll be honest . . . A lot of the time, I just don't pick up the phone if the caller ID is unfamiliar, but when I'm in the mood, these callers get to deal with MY bullschitt.

You should get what fits your game Rick. He's right though, if you chop a shaft down, the net effect is a stiffer shaft.

Hopefully they stuck you on the monitor to get you the right shaft.

Unfortunately I don't have anything trollish to say... I've been made aware my game is off today, so I won't even try, I'll leave that for the other knuckleheads.

Don't know what brand clubs you use but would recommend for you to take a look at the Callaway pre-owned site.

http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com

The very good condition clubs look as though they have never been played
