Herfing This has to be the strongest Madero I have ever touched nicotine wise It starts off with flavors of cherrywood sweetness and a hint of what you fight in their Sungrown Maduro. With each drag new nuances of spice sweetness and different woody flavors burst forth. This is possibly the buzziest Maduro I have ever smoked. It was a flavor bomb all the way to the nub.

So, the Edge is 5 years older and NOW it's enjoyable?whip

Padron has a cigar called the 1964 Aniversario and it ages for 4 years.

Frying pan Frying pan Frying pan

It was crap when the line was introduced. I cannot imagine a Patel cigar getting any better with age. Ever.

ram27bat Don’t worry about me, I carry a big stick, just like Roosevelt. These flies can’t hurt me. As for their description, perhaps their taste buds are less developed and they enjoy such things as Ghurkas and White Owls. 😅😂🤣

No matter what, there are two less people to worry about bidding on these beauties in the future.

I agree with Spey. Smoke what you like.

But, I challenge you to come back to this thread in five years and tell us what you think about this RP at that time (assuming that you've smoked decent cigars between now and then...for 'comparison'.)

I have already made my way through quite a few on the market. This one falls right under my favorite, AF Hemingway Maduro. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much, but I am lighting up my third currently.

Yeah......smoke what you like.
Just don't stock up too heavily on RPs...
In the not too distant future, you will likely smoke your last one...........ever.
The ones you have left you'll save for the annoying moochers in your life.

I second this wise advice... smoke lfd's and tats for a few weeks and then try anything by Rocky... you'll never look back...

I have been smoking cigars over 10 years and have tried a little bit of everything, and this is still a very good cigar in my eyes. Agreed, smoke what you like. People on here think I am nuts for liking the Obsidian, but I just really like it. Great, cheap smoke.

And if you get bored with them...you can shoot some my way. LoL

Admittedly, I haven't smoked an RP Edge Maduro in many years. If you ask around, I think that you'll find that many, many people who didn't object to the flavor, objected heavily to the dye that came off on their fingers and mouth. If they have fixed that issue, it is possible that it isn't too sucky. I don't favor that profile much anymore, but when I did, I found better cigars cheaper that didn't turn my hand brown.

I knock RP's somewhat....but not as bad as some. Rocky has a rep as being quite a ******...but, he co-sponsored a trip to his plant in Honduras for a bunch of old vets at my local American Legion, so he gets a pass from me. I still smoke two different RP blends when I can get them here for under $3/per: Edge Corojo and RPSG. I've probably tried over two dozen other RP blends and there isn't another that I'd seek to smoke again

The three of you have similar palates that's for sure.

I have a batch of the Rocky Patel X-Outs Liga A from about 2009 or 2010 or so. They're supposedly seconds of the Edge Maduro.

Holy crap are they amazing. Not kidding. Time did astounding things to them, they're top-shelf. I can't speak to other batches from other years, but wow.

(I smoke what I like and ignore trolls, so go right ahead and be a condescending snob so we can all laugh at you, it's fun!) :)

I am 36, and I am willing to try any cigar once, if I like it, I get a bunch. I already loved the RP Sungrown Maduro, and when I tried this one I was immediately hooked. It was like a stronger brother to the Sungrown. However it was truly amazing what 5 years did for this cigar.

I've found several good Gurks, but have yet to find a RP I would buy again.

I thought the same, initially, but then I fell in love with their Sungrown Maduro. Funny how it takes a few to realize the nuances of it.

Let me preference this with, "smoke what you like", and "don't worry about what others think". I smoked the crap out of RPs my first few years of this hobby. In fact, an RP Edge Lite is the cigar that hooked me into this whole mess. With that said, I can't remember the last time I've bought/won an RP offering. If you have only been smoking cigars for a few years, try not to overstock on any particular one. My tastes have changed multiple times over the years. First it was mainly naturals, then I got into mostly maduros, then cigars with very high Ligero content, and a time when all I wanted was Pepin spice. There is very little I smoked my first 5 years that I still enjoy today. Just a few words of wisdom and experience.

Thanks David and everyone for their input. As always, say what you mean and mean what you say. That’s my motto and I definitely live by it. I won’t stock up any more than I currently have, I have a very well rounded stock of Maduros to enjoy, and I will probably continue to only smoke Maduros. I love the deep flavors of the Maduros, but if I run across others I like with full body like Maduros, I won’t be critical of them either. Give me a flavorful cigar and I will always be happy. To each their own.

Very true indeed. I like RP edge but in just the past few months I have noticed that I am smoking less of them and moving on to other brands. As I go along on this journey my taste is changing or growing I should say. I will say this though, In time I know I will revisit the RP edge from time to time as I am a nostalgic type person and I love to reminisce. I just got to be in the right mood which is something that plays a big part in what stogie I chose at the time. Only one thing matters IMHO. It's the mood and enjoyment that you get from it. Really it dont make a chit what is the brand, type, or any other of that stuff like hank and his Gurkha's bwahahaha..... It is what you like and what it does for you. Now if you are smoking a black and mild yes I am going to make fun of you!

But that is all in fun. If it does you right then you keep on a puffin and enjoy every bit of it!

Definitely not, it was my first, and my last cruddy cigar. I will say that it tasted far better than Swisher Sweets cigarellos, but that isn’t saying much. lol

I tried one years and years ago. I never even thought about trying another and at the time I was not even a cigar smoker. But, a lot of folks like them. I also laugh at people that like the taste of dirt and lick windows but hey if they like it go for it right?

I would have to agree. If they want to eat paint chips, who are we to judge? lol
