You telling me, My wife has to have insulin pens because she's too blind to be able to draw with a needle. It cost us approx 600.oo a month just for her insulin and that is with insurance. Reason being is insurance will not pay much for the pen because they think everyone can use the needles and draw insulin from a bottle and we are both blind. Well to blind to see the marks on a needle.

But you see it with a lot of things, Let a man go deaf at no fault of his own and insurance will not pay one red cent for a hearing aid but, let a man not brush his teeth all his life and insurance will pay for all the dental work and dentures.

My wife is diabetic and uses the needles and vials of two different types of insulin.......we have a high deductible insurance.........$6000 deductible for each of us.......her insulin alone costs us almost $900 every 4-5 weeks, depending on how much she needs per day.........I'm just grateful to be able to afford it, but I often wonder how low income people, or even drug addicts(I'm sure there must be a couple of drug addicted diabetics out there) can afford it

I know brother I know, There have been many a times we had to go with the over the counter insulin because its 25 bucks and hope for the best when it comes to drawing. Knocking on a neighbors door and have them check to see if we got the right amount, Even had to go as far as taking a snapshot of the needle and send to someone to have them verify or try and blow it up so we can see it. Chitty thing is the over the counter insulin does not work well for her at all so glucose levels go stupid. Not to mention other people do not want you knocking on their door and asking "Is this right" plumb freaking embarrassing it can be.

We are now back to that for the time being due to she left her last job due to the wear and tear on the car delivering news papers and it was not worth the pay. She has now acquired a job for Home Depot but insurance does not take place for 90 days. Blahhh Now all I can do is sit back and watch. Such as life.

Dude, we all know you are a bright, well educated guy, and we love your hick from da sticks shtick, so I think I know the answer before I ask but...

do you guys qualify for some kind of hours of in-home services where you live? Town? County? Might just be 3 hour a week, but it could maybe be used to set up meds for a few days at a time or, I dunno, even light cleaning or help with the laundry or a ride a couple times a week for food/supplies.

It ain't charity Bro, we all (including you and your wife) kick in local taxes to help people when they need help.

Neither of you should be at risk taking life sustaining meds.

Nope we sure do not, Here in Memphis first finding such is like pulling teeth, Second pretty much everything we make has to go towards bills and medical needs. Now to get what you are speaking of means the choice of that and go homeless or keep a roof over our heads and try to keep the life sustaining meds by cutting every corner we can. Now if they would ask to be paid a reasonable price for such service I would be all over that like green on grass. It is one of the things I have noticed which is really odd to me. Once in the position of being disabled and out of work the price seems to quadruple. Don't get me wrong we do get what we need and for that I am very very grateful but when they ask for every cent of my long term disability for such service then the bills don't get paid. It is like you have to chose one or the other but not both.

This is also one of the things I pitch such a fit about disability. I have been working since I was 13, The only time in my life not working was the 2 years I went to college. Dr refuses to let me work, No one will hire me due to me being a liability but yet from the age of 16 to 47 my Social Security has been paid every week and as it stands right now I have been 2 times denied.

It is real easy to get the impression of once a person becomes not able to be an asset to society then you are left to rot. This is where I get so pissed at people that bitch about having a job and having to work. Most do not realize how much of a blessing it is to have that and how I would give both my nuts to be able to do such or should I say be allowed to do such.

This is a reason why I do not buy say boxes of cigars, when going to an event I will buy 4 or 5 just enough to get a ticket or two for drawings and win what I get. Also, finding veggies and such on sale to make things for trade ect. Also why I am so grateful to all the BOTL here for the trades and RAOK. It's all about cutting corners I guess and "They" whomever they are seem to have it down to an artform in making it so people have to do that. What pisses me off is they are better at it than I am lol. Again such as life I guess.

Will do brother, what time today would be good? The wife has found a coworker that will shave/groom the rat/mountain goat dog she adopted for 5 bucks so I will be out and about today which makes it a good day to call.

Yep but no magnifying glass is large enough that I have found. The one I have, it don't fix blurry or depth perception, that is why taking a digital photo seems to work best because I can email it to my pc and that is attached to a 42" screen.

I keep a magnifying glass here at my desk and it barely makes large cigar labels large enough to half way make out the writing if I do not know the design.

The word (screen) is a little over 1" long on my monitor. It is the only way I can read the forums. Also you have to keep in mind that it is my occipital lobes that is mucked up for me my eyes are in perfect shape. In essence it's my cypher machine that is screwed up so it is not the normal kind of partial blindness. If it were glasses would work.

Now with my wife her's is due eye damage due to diabetes. She has had eye surgery twice and the backs of her eyeballs looks like a dart board that has been used for 20 years. Here is an image that shows what the backs of her eyes look like but multiply the light dots by 2. The light spots is where the eye has been hit by a laser and also is a temporary fix for her. We have been told that in time she will be totally blind. Her last surgery was 4 years ago. No worries though cause one way or another we will keep finding a way. ThumpUp
