I watched a video from Drew Estates yesterday. When they made the bundle of filler leaves they tear off the ends and use them as filler in the thinner spots. So while there made be three or four different type leaves in the blend, at certain points in the cigar they may be more of any one or more types because they have added the torn off ends and some leaves may be shorter than the others. They explained that this may cause variations in the taste as you smoke through the length of the cigar. But then the guy said they use the filler veins for cushioning in packaging. They use the filler trimmings to make short filler cigars. They salvage what wrapper they can to make smaller cigars. It sounded like he said they take the remainder of the wrapper and binder scraps and use them for cushioning in packaging also. NOW, I wonder if the wrapper really has a large percent of the flavor, wouldn't you think you may want to drop wrapper scraps into the filler bunch?

The over-priced and over-hyped Papa Fritas are made from trimmings.

I thought the Papas Fritas was a tasty cigar when you could get them at around $3..................,,,.. No more at that price.

I talked with Jon about this once, as I had a similar thought/question as to yours and his short answer was that you traditionally don't put wrapper leaf in the filler blend because it will burn very bitter.

And yet people wonder why companies go out of business.

I'm a long filler kinda guy. There's a machine made Cuban cigar that I enjoy because of it's cost and it's a decent cigar, but I like them handmade too.

Seems like "fillers", "Trimmings" and "sandwich" are code for "We can squeeze more money by sweeping up the floors". Not a fan.

Not big on short filler cigars but you are correct. Tasty smoke for under $3.

Yep.........the thing I remember about those that always surprised me was that 1 out of every 3 or 4 was, for some reason, exceptionally good. I once had a fiver where 3 of them were awesome.
Guess some scraps are better than others...

Here is another vote for the Papas Fritas being a really good small cigar. Tasted good & burned well for a small, short fill. Got bombed with some a long time ago and bought a couple of batches when they were cheap.

$26 for a 5'er today (on "sale") on CI BEFORE shipping? For a 4.5 x 44? Nope, can get quite bit better value for that price on other cigars elsewhere.

While we're at it, the whole Liga Privada line is good but overpriced. If I am going to spend $15-20 on a cigar, I am heading just south of the Keys....
