I'm kinda on the fence on this one. In reality, we do need to come up with major modifications to our system as automation continues to take over.

With the rise of the $15 - $20 dollar burger flipper initiatives where a $40k machine is totally cheaper than paying a dropout, sh1t needs to change.

At some point, it will be cheaper to just pay people a basic salary than deal with all the bs. I'm not sure when that's going to happen, but it will happen eventually... probably sooner than later.

I bet building 40K burger flippers pays better than actually flipping burgers Anxious

I think it boils more down to a very large percentage of the population will soon be useless (even more useless than they already are now).

I don't think my job could be automated.

Ya, I don't think we're quite there yet either. I still see a sometimes smiling face when I drive through McDonald's.

We're not there until we have automated robots discriminating against angry liberals at Starbucks instead of overpriced humanoids.

Don't be so sure;)

I would like to think that my job couldn't be automated either... but with some sick algorithm skills and a talented group of programmers much more talented than myself, I wouldn't exactly say never.

I do think our jobs are safe in our lifetimes though.

My job can't even be "protocolized" if that's a word. It just can't be an IF x THEN y type of thing.

I think at some point it could be semi automated. They're already doing that in some hospitals. Central location with video and telemetry monitoring, a human watching all of that but then notifying the humans on the unit about changes they've noticed and need to be addressed. Tele nurse can be monitoring 20 patients while boots on the ground are responsible for 6 at a time instead of one nurse for 2-3 patients you can have one nurse for every 6 patients.

There's more to programming than if / then conditionals;)

All it takes is automate one thing... then they say, well, if we can build that step in, then we can build this step in... before you know it... BOOM, you got a bunch of robots under you.

Then if your job gets reduced to monitoring the robots and analyzing the data they give you... well, computers are very good at analyzing data (assuming the programmers that wrote it are competent).

I don't think it's a matter of if, it's more a matter of when.

Corps have been moving out of this country for years! It's cheaper to buy clothes made in a third-world country, and hire a Mexican with a pick-up truck to take care of your lawn.

Automation is real... it won't just be here, it'll be everywhere.

I've probably cost hundreds of people their jobs by the work I've done for people over the years... but those workers aren't my clients... I have no control over what my clients do once my work is done.

IT guys (the people that fix Windows computers from sales guys browsing porn and stuff) hate me, they know I'm a threat to their existence.

It said "one at a time, please"

I was alone...

I have it on a double LP called The Nightclub Years, 1964-1967...so that was even before he had released Take the Money and Run I think.

And even before Mia Farrow...wasn't it Mia's adopted daughter?
