haha.......cough, cough...........yaknowhat.............we did, and at the very start, got into a massive tangle - four lines, 8 hooks, two weights, two jigs, two fish and a thousand little knots........crew member Lauren, after fifteen minutes of trying to free everybody up, just started cutting lines and rigs....when she was done, she told one of us to go fish on the other side, while looking at me...............problem solved...

but MACS continued leaking throughout the weekend...

So the woman baked one of the fish in the oven last night...
Scored/olive oil/salt/mixture of fried garlic and scallions ... Wrapped it up like spring rolls with fish sauce, pickled and fresh veggies. Damn good.

Sounds good... and sounds like she knows what she's doing... did she go for the eyes or are they not edible on those fish?

I made some more last night... kids won't touch it... they're not picky, but they aren't fans of fish.... i like it, but not enough to eat it often... the wife eats it like it fell from the hands of God...

She didn't eat the eyes... Scooped the meat out from behind them in the socket area and really liked that (said the cheeks were too tough)... Body meat was real good...

Do you know if the fish was a vermillion or a bocaccio? The bocaccio have those huge mouths and the vermillion are red with that black mottling... we had both last night... the bocaccio are good, but the vermillion is downright fantastic...

It was what you were calling a red rockfish... Haven't tried the salmon grouper yet

That's the vermillion... i was surprised at just how good the quality of meat is... they're always good, but must be something about where we caught them or the cooler water temp or something, they were extra good this time around....

If the woman is going to use any fish to make stock or soup, the salmon grouper will be best suited for that... still a clean meat but not so flaky...

made fish tacos for daughter and SIL...they loved the fish...chewier and more moist than the standard/smaller vermillion we usually catch in Ventura waters...

We're having my two sisters over for a fish fry on Sat night...that will leave about 25% of the catch to consume...

Don't think so...
Everyone brought back 10 fish...

I've got pics of Opel and Drafter with their 2 favorite... But I don't know if anyone took pics of their pile of fish.

Abrignac, Drafter, MACS and Opel all caught more than the allotted personal limit...they all gave their extra fish to other people on the boat (some of whom were too seasick to fish) who didn't catch the limit of 10 fish...at the end of the day, our group filled the "extras" bag that is used for over-flow fish, to reach the catch limit for the number of people on the boat, which includes the captain and crew...

remarkably, we hit the limit after only about three hours of fishing and got back 4.5 hours early...

Victor went over limit as well... when i counted through our "extra" bag up front ended up with 30 fish in it after we filled rustys limit... i won't lie, I was too nervous to take it to Charlie, so i took it to lauren instead... thankfully, the deck hands and captain all have limits to fill as well i believe, so we were covered...

That's the thing about charters that soured me on them. I love the fishing part. First time a boat headed back early, I was pizzed. Any more, I only go on boats that agree to stay out and fish - whether its for something else, or C&R to fill out the hours I've paid for.

Weather wasn't that stellar... Boat wasn't exactly a relaxing boat... We're all in clothes covered in fish .... A number of people had been hurling over the side for a lot of the trip....

Yeah... If there's no more fishing to be done, then you get the fishing boat back to harbor.

Don't get me wrong... If there was a deck of lawn chairs, running water to wash off, and a hold full of ice to store the fish so you're not tripping over them everywhere you walk, I'd be ok with staying out longer.... But that boat was set up for fishing and only fishing.

As Victor mentioned, weather definitely factored in...

There is an outfit out here - virgs landing - that At one point was known for getting people limits of tiny fish close to harbor and then heading back in early ... that was crap...

When you catch your limit early with brad, you caught your best and biggest limit possible...

And the big thing, these fish - with the exception of the ling cod - have swim bladders... being caught 300 ft down and then dragged to the surface means death... so no meaningful catch and release is possible...

If it was possible to only target ling cod and not catch other rock cod it might be a different game, but that's not really feasible...

Gotcha....I guess fizzing doesn't work on fish from 300 feet down....my charter experience hasn't included deep-sea- only bays and Great Lakes

ocean was really getting rougher...captain moved us closer to shore to avoid oncoming whitecaps...even so, we were getting tossed around...still have bruises on my hips and forearms from banging against the rail...honestly, I was happy to head back after I caught my limit and heard everybody else did too (and more)...
