Grownups are culpable in both instances to varying degrees.
Down the road, maybe gun manufacturers can incorporate combination locks on guns and motion/disabling features on cellphones. But meanwhile, back in the killing fields...
You lose me when you sarcastically add that reasonable people see it it as either fair or feasible to remove all guns. But ok, probably some do...but doesn't add to the conversation...
Regarding school shootings specifically, for reasons that are complicated but very real and deadly, some extremely angry kids are killing fellow students. Damn, even grownups are mass murdering with gun as their weapon of choice. Right? Guns are a variable in the lethal equation just as much or more as any other contributing factor.
My larger point is that there is a mood in our country that is at the root of these murders. We've become a sociopathic society. We've neglected to teach all our children the value of life and fundamental civility. We're teaching them instead to follow their base instincts. You're angry? Explode! You're insulted? Lash out?
Something rotten is afoot. And I washed them!
The reasons why kids have unprotected sex and murder are very different.
You keep saying we, when you mean "the parents of these children".
I was taught right from wrong(morals), by my parents, and I worked hard to pass those morals and beliefs on to my children....and my children are working hard to pass them on to their children.
My kids were brought up around guns and were taught the "rules". They also played video games. They were also taught to control their tempers......not always easy to do, even for us "grownups".
As far as I know my kids or grandkids have not hurt or killed anyone, so I like to think some of what they were taught by my words and actions sunk in.....That being said, the parents that are out drinking and drugging and have no idea what their kids are doing or who they are doing it with, are being taught different lessons.
I realize both parents need to work to make it in this world, but you also need to set some time aside for your kids too(you had enough time to create them, so take some responsibility for them).
Kids learn from their parents one way or the other, good or bad, by their parents example. If the parents don't set the right example, kids will look to others for those examples, good/bad. I would think most "grownups" would want their kids to learn right and wrong from them, and not the guy down the street who beats his wife and kids and drives home drunk every night.
Correct me if I'm wrong(and I'm sure you will), but it is YOUR job to teach YOUR children right from wrong-NOT MINE!
My job is teaching MY children and offspring respect for others and to stand up for their beliefs while respecting the beliefs of others.......and That killing someone because you disagree with them is very very BAD!!!
