I support Arsenal, so if I could take a shot at Kane, I'd take it.

Chelsea man myself. yeah hes no robben, but i mean henderson carried a player on his back as they tried to drop. harry is too content to hit the deck for such a strong player

Yes.

I've gone from hating this sport, to using much of my vacation time to watch.

He's got that good, clean cut, English boy look. If he falls down, someone must have fouled him persona.

Agree with Robben being the worst. Difficult to watch any game he is involved in. For that reason alone, I was happy Netherlands didn't qualify.

This game is not a track meet, but sprinters on meth.

Belgium knows how to put the hearts in their fans throats. Was getting light headed over the last ten minutes. Brazil was wearing them down, you could see how it would end if it went into extras.

Thought the skills of Hazzard and DeBruyne were (more or less) equal, in watching the premier league. Not anymore. Hazzard is superior in every facet, minus the pinpoint pass in traffic.

Wonder if England will fold tomorrow, now that they vexed their PK demon.

Russia Croatia? That could get nasty physical.

One of the few Blah kind of games. Sweden looked stiff and slow.

The English fans are an odd lot. Pessimistic, Pessimistic, Pessimistic, then arrogance.

Bipolar is too kind a label.

And Germany made a stinky poopy in da bed.........2 goals in 3 games.........with one of them a semi miracle?

last four teams seals the argument that Europe is still the center of the soccer world, and that the best players are in the top three/four leagues there, England, Spain, Germany, France

Croatia has more balls and determination than even I imagined.

When Trippier scored on 5 minutes, I couldn't conceive of this team coming back with the legs of Major Dan to make up, then overcome the deficit.

France should roll through them. Just like their last two, assumed, overlords.

France in a blowout...... right?

I'm with delta in my failed predictions.
Belgium looked tired and flat, and that vaunted counter attack just didn't happen much.
I've under estimated Croatia the whole tournament..............didn't even have them coming out of their group..............then they spank Argentina 3-0 in group.........and I still figured it was a fluke, like Germany's epic turd.........

Croatia 2 France 1

Hope I didn't jinx em....

It will be an awesome match. I'm pulling for France, but with Croatia's heart...?

Side note, who knew the Ref was from Croatia in the England game?

I may have some resentment.

My guess is you have not been watching. This has been a great world cup.

I think they are starting to gain control over the flopping. I was hoping the VAR would result in more yellows when it happens but it seems as if the Refs are doing a better job of not calling the penalty and the VAR at times works in reverse.... if that makes sense....

Flopping hasn't been much of an issue and I love the world making fun of Niedermeyer (intentional spelling)

Go croatia.

Brazil's Neymar thanks you for the support.

Any sport that would allow such obvious flopping without enforcing any rules to prevent it should not be taken serious.

In the NHL some players started flopping, so they created the Embellishment penalty. And they enforce it, even though it's clearly a judgement call.
The NBA is doing the same thing. And it works.

This has been going on in soccer for decades, if not longer.
At the World Cup level.
And still no rules. Otherwise Neymar would have been sitting long before his team fell out of the tournament.

No more predictions from me...Croatia plays better going forward, so I don't see them sitting back and waiting to counterattack. That should make for a great and physical match. Hope they're not gassed from all the OT they've played. They had more in reserve than England, though, who played the last five minutes with one player on the bench, maybe with a groin pull, maybe physically spent from exhaustion.

Can't wait...

If you say so. You obviously have not been watching and did not grasp what I was saying. And I purposely misspelled Neymar who is the poster boy for the issue. he was largely mocked and his flops largely neutralized.

You don't have to like the sport, but its obvious you are not following it and your thoughts are a bit dated. The flopping issue is not totally resolved but they have made great strides without being draconian. There are rules and VAR.

I like what they have done, and if you had watched this world cup (which I'd guess you have no interest and even less knowledge about) you'd see flopping really has not been a huge issue..... neymar and what the mainstream media is telling you to think aside. its still there but not as you describe. I think you are out of your knowledge zone.

This is pure awesome.

In the history of sports talk, there has never been a discussion where somebody said "I don't like soccer", without hearing "well, you just don't understand it".
here we have yet another variation of it.

It's hilarious.

TW, you need justification?
OK fine.
I didn't watch enough of the world cup to have an opinion that matches yours.
But it's a catch 22. I don't watch because it's a joke sport. I can't be expected to watch and simply hope that it won't be WWE acting on the pitch.

Soccer fans are so needy.

And please don't misinterpret me. I am NOT being sarcastic.
If anything, I am understating how pathetic they can be.

We'll probably have to wait for a reply from TW.
He's too busy flopping to type.
(STILL not being sarcastic)

I do admit that I didn't catch your Neymar joke.

You claim that FIFA is addressing the flops? Didn't Naymar help Brazil beat Mexico AFTER a flop episode?

I know how to fix soccer for the American fan with 3 simple changes:
-No more off sides.
-Widen the goal by 3 meters.....oops.....ok........10 feet!
-Penalty box like hockey.......bad foul?........3 minutes in da box.......none of that yellow and red card chit.

Typical scores should be like 16 to 12...........it would be awesome...........American Futbol!

Heck, someone should start this league.

Gator,
I understand where your head is at. Ten years ago, I was EXACTLY in your viewing shoes. Saw a replay of a cheating Frenchman named Thierry Henry cheat Ireland out of a WC for 2010. In humor you wouldn't understand, two years later, I became an Arsenal fan.

Ironically, it was the NFL that made me a soccer fan. Enduring the endless breaks for commercials, I'd watch a little English Premier League. A full game all wrapped up in well under 2 hours. In the NFL, that only gets you midway into the third quarter.

As for flopping, there is far less flopping than there is holding in the NFL. Not even close. Compare the game flow of soccer. These athletes are almost always in motion. That, verses the six seconds of action, punctuated 40 seconds of no action, followed by five more minutes of screaming commercials. You can have the NFL.

Soccer snobs (and I) would tell you the same thing about understanding the game. Soccer is a chess match with human pieces. If you are a fan of structure, process and tactics, you'd like this. Don't watch where the ball is, realize where it is
going.

If you are into no flopping, physicality, give up on the NFL and watch Rugby. There is no reason (other than tradition) to watching the NFL.

Meh I wasn’t saying TG doesn’t underestand soccer despite his strawman.

I was saying he obviously isn’t watching it as of late or he would know his flopping comments are out of date.

Unless TG can say with a straight face he’s been watching it, I stand by my take that he’s talking about something he doesn’t know about and his information is out dated.

I don’t expect him to admit it though.
