Mickey Mantle was from Oklahoma ...

Woulda been the greatest of all time if he hadn't wrecked his knee tripping over a sprinkler head in the outfield early in his career...fave non-Dodger player when I was growing up...

I hate the Yankees too, but I was a kid who didn't know better and the Yankees hadn't beaten the LA Dodgers in the WS yet...

his HR race to 60 in '61 with Maris turned me into a Mantle fan...he seemed happy to play, Maris seemed up-tight...

I tried to like him, but he was a fn Giant...Dodger fans, from birth, are taught the Giants are devils and evil incarnate...

I understand.
Mantle was a Yankee, so y'know...

When the Dodgers, Yanks, and Giants were all in NY, some even tried to claim that Duke Snider was the best of the three center fielders. They were wrong.

yah...he was good...a HOF... but Mays and Mantle were better in almost every category for centerfielders: batting and defense...
