Facebook Identifies an Active Political Influence Campaign Using Fake Accounts

The really interesting part, they are left leaning pages.

Activity was also detected around #AbolishICE, a left-wing campaign on social media that seeks to end the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency."

Among the campaign’s efforts was organizing support for a counterprotest to a conservative rally. Specifically, an account called Resisters, which interacted with one Internet Research Agency account in 2017, created an Aug. 10 event, “No Unite the Right 2 — DC,” to counter a planned white supremacist rally in Washington on Aug. 11 and 12 by the same group that organized the racist march in Charlottesville one year earlier.

Although other Facebook pages are promoting the counterprotest, the social network said that the Resisters page was the first, and that it had coordinated with administrators for five other apparently real pages to co-host its page — publicizing details about transportation and other logistics. A person familiar with the matter said the page was created on June 24.

I'm guessing that the Russian's goal is to reduce voter turn-out for the mid-terms...that's the best way for the GOP to maintain control of Congress...get voters disgusted with politics so they stay home...strategy was used in Michigan in 2016, where Trump won by about 11,000 votes...don't have to "change" any votes...just stop some people from voting, like the GOP sponsored voter restriction initiatives across the US..

cons don't seem to care about Russian interference because they seem to be helping the GOP... if the Russians had said they wanted Hillary to win, and she won, the right would be outraged and demanding that the feds do something to shut the Russians down...


politics in the US is all partisan and tribal, and the Russians are trying to exploit and aggravate that...

Between the left and the right, there's no real sense of "we're all in the same American boat".

Huck, this forum is a great place to enjoy laughing, trading insults, stating your viewpoint and why it is correct, and so many other things. It isn't the real world. My take is that very few people here actually hate others here.

I can only speak for myself. After I leave here I don't give any comments from here a second thought. Sure, there are a few people here that are ignorant. What group doesn't have its fools. Some of the individuals I argue with are very smart people who challenge me to think.

I'm not sure which post was the final nail, but I do know that "Short Eyes" one had something to do with it.

Edit: I was mistaken... he said it was abrupt with no warning... The "Short Eyes" one only netted him 2 weeks according to a PM.
